Free Satellite with Apollo Purchase Promo

Did you guys see the new End of Year Universal Audio promo? Apollo Rack + Satellite Promo

"buy and register any new Apollo rackmount interface (Apollo 8, Apollo 8p, Apollo 16, or Apollo FireWire) through December 31st, 2015, and you’ll get a UAD-2 QUAD Satellite DSP Accelerator — Thunderbolt or FireWire — absolutely free!"

I think that just sealed the deal on me getting an Apollo 8p. Now, who wants to buy a Thunderbolt quad satellite from me?

Do you think this is indicative that they are releasing an Octo Apollo next year? It would seem like it, but honestly I'd rather save some coin and just get a quad

They must have such an insane margin on those things the way they give them away all the time. Either that or they figure they make it up in plugin sales.

Tempted to buy one just for the Satellite and then sell the Apollo. Would be a cheap DSP upgrade. But it feels kinda mean to take advantage of their offer like that.

Not unlikely that we'll see dual core updates for the satellites next year though. I think the Apollos might take a little longer.

I would say yes they are clearing the production pipeline and have a octo sat on the way or a new one with 4 double core sharc chips .

does anyone knows if they're usually willing to trade the offer (in this case the satellite) for its value in plugins?

nope, the come on is you get to /own sell the hardware and then have free money or ask the store where you buy the apollo if you can trade the quad in on the purchase, remember you probably get a $100 coupon anyway and the custom bundle offer on registration

Hey there. UA has said repeatedly that there's physically no room on the FPGA for more DSP (for the moment). With the recent blackface releases still porting QUADs, I'm guessing it'll be a couple years until we see an Apollo v3 with possibly an OCTO! Who know what could happen, but that's the official response UA has given us for the moment!

ua ain't your friend :) they want your money :0) coupons can only be loaded in the buy screens in the store, the custom bundle is a separate screen on the ua site, pay up or shut up :)!

Yes, I knew the FGPA limitation, but still, the fact that they are giving away a free quad satellite seems very "UA-ish" that something "equivalent" or new is coming down the pipe. Like how they gave $997 in plug-ins on all Apollo purchases right before they announced the next-gen Apollos

They could have a new dual core satellite in the wings. Tbolt pcie and usb3 can both handle that throughput.

Shit! I also bought an 8p a month ago! I could REALLY use that promo! I wonder if there is anything that can be done with recent purchases.. I would have waited!

This is quite a good deal...If I even get a hint of a potential Windows solution for Apollo 8's before Dec. 31, I'll be happily making the purchase even if the actual solution drags out a few months for Windows and UA to put it all together. It would be torture to have that Apollo 8 sitting in a box for who knows how long but ultimately worth it with a quad satellite.

We'll see what the reported collaboration between MS & UA yields...gosh, I really hope it is beyond simply getting the Twin USB rolling...

They've done around 5-10 promotions where they gave away UAD's and I believe there was only 1 time when it was followed up by a new product.

They must have such an insane margin on those things the way they give them away all the time. Either that or they figure they make it up in plugin sales.
Both. UAD prices have no correlation with the hardware build cost, they're based purely on marketing. The fact is there isn't much difference in build cost between a Duo and a Quad but no one would ever buy Duos if Quads were only sold for $100 more.
