Should I worry about the Apollo Quad FireWire soon being outdated?

I'm a film/tv composer working out of a home studio. I've been testing the FireWire on my Windows 10 PC and have been very pleased compared to an RME and a MOTU interface I've tried. I have no Thunderbolt (running an i7 5820k cpu with MSI x99a gaming 7 mobo) capabilities, and the fact that the FireWire QUAD can be retrofitted with a TB connection seems appealing (albeit expensive).

I believe this interface is 5-6 years old now, and I want to keep my PC for another 4-5 years. Is there risk of this this being outdated and possibly losing support from UA since it's been out for a while now?

Should I worry about the Apollo Quad FireWire soon being outdated?

This new driver is the first version that doesn't work on 10.8.5 (not just unsupported), which is what I use, so I can no longer use my Apollo on either of my studio systems, so I understand the concern.

However, UA just spent a year updating FW with Console 2. It's not going anywhere anytime soon. Since you're on Windows 10, I don't think you have anything to worry about for years.

UA has a great track record of supporting legacy products for many years. However, once the firewire drivers do stop being supported, I'm guessing the thunderbolt drivers will still be supported for many years after. It's nothing you need to address now but I imagine you'll want to get the thunderbolt adapter sometime in the next couple years.

Also a FW apollo owner here, and $500 for a thunderbolt card seems like a very expensive upgrade IMO! Not looking forward to crossing that bridge, and will reconsider my options when that time eventually comes. Hopefully if/when it does come UA might offer deal or incentive to purchase the thunderbolt card and upgrade our systems rather than keeping our systems and going with a different company. Its not just a case of upgrading the apollo with a thunderbolt card, we will also have to upgrade our entire systems a well (at least for us Mac guys with the older mac pro's).

I agree. But I guess I'm at happy that the TB upgrade option exists at least, should I need to upgrade in the next 5 years or so.

I have the Silverface Apollo QUAD firewire with TB option. My MP tower is firewire, my MBP is FW800 and TB. I am trying the thunderbolt option on the MBP for the first time, loaded the software but the meter/console is requiring a firmware upgrade. I am not clear about how this will affect my ability to use the Apollo on both systems. The order of the language on the compatibility page at first has me believe that if I load the new firmware to enable TB ports, the FW ports will be disabled. (Maybe this statement meant that the FW ports will pass no data when the unit is connected to a TB brain. So you can't chain other devices to the FW ports.) The last thing on compatibility page says all FW Apollos come from the factory with FW firmware and will run FW or TB with the added TB card.(But, to enable TB I have to replace that firmware !?? So...?)

Then there is the option that one of the TB card generations is able to pass firewire protocols through the second TB port with an APPLE TB to FW adapter. (My card is not the generation that does this)

So, if I upgrade the firmware to enable TB for my MBP, will the Apollo QUAD Silverface FW ports still work if I want to run the Apollo QuAD on my desktop?

El Capitan on both. MBP is Mid 2012. MP is 2013.
