Twin USB and Sonarworks

I have my Sonarworks software set up, ready to calibrate. I have a Apollo Twin USB interface. The input options on Sonarworks only show the line level options of the USB, not mic options - has anyone seen this to be? I see nowhere on the Sonarworks site that Sonarworks does not work with the Twin USB. I did see where there's a PT Mode to turn off, but on the USB version, there is no PT mode there to turn off I can find. Hoping for a good answer, as opposed to this won't work... Please advise and thanks!

Are you talking about in Sonarworks software, or the Console 2? I see nothing in Console to Hardware to select. I tried both the line ins offered in SW, to no avail. I have signal in the USB at either channel, and Analog 1 muted to stop feedback.

So, I got my VMS mic pre out, ran the SW mic into it, and out of it to the Line 2 input of the USB. I have line level signal in the USB at -9. Yet there is still no signal showing in the SW software input page in the pic above. I do have a 'ticket' open there. 15 minutes to calibrate - as Al would say - 'I don't think so, Tim'...

Go figure this one... I put the pic of line level in, it came out upside down in the post. I rotated it to upside down in an editor and swapped it out here. Still upside down. Not my day, I reckon.

I also ran the mic into my DAW through the USB, using both mic and line level to input to a track. No issues there, so I know signal is getting in. Seems like a SW problem with Twin USB.

A friend said to check and see what your windows sound looks like. Here it is. I have all mic inputs options from the Twin USB in both Studio One and Sonar and it all works well. SW is the only app that doesn't show them to my knowledge. Now I don't see them in my Windows sound window. Here a pic of my device manager as well. I am lost.

I wish I could simply wave my magic wand, and "Poof" there would be the solution for you, but the last time I used my magic wand, the only thing that happened was it began spewing pixie dust. It wouldn't shut off! The stupid wand filled the entire first floor of our house before if finally ran out of fuel.

I don't have the SW software, or a Twin, on my SF Quad a simple button switched between mic and line. What happens if you tell the Twin to use mic?

I did. That's why I got my VMS pre out, so I could try to appease SW by giving it line input which the gui says it sees. But somehow that doesn't work. Windows doesn't see the mic inputs from the USB - everything else I own sees them - 2 DAWs, Sound Forge, Adobe Audition, Multiple Software standalone amp sims, etc. I don't know how to get Windows to see them. This always worked for everything until SW. Praying someone can help me not burn $300 up on dead in the water software..

I'm using the Sonarworks mic, the cal file is loaded, and I tried doing what you stated through my Slate VMS 1 into both channels' line inputs. I get great signal and all my other software titles readily see all the inputs from the Twin, just not SW. I do not have a choice of built in mic (see pic fro m earlier post). I'm told that since Windows audio isn't seeing them, it's an issue between Windows and the Twin, because SW handles audio differently than a DAW (if that makes sense). In Device Manager only the Line side shows up under Audio I/O. I went into the sounds control window, and can't get to the config and properties buttons because they are greyed out. I never use the Twin mic ins though Windows audio in any sense. Until now that it seems I need to be able to. I have no clue how this could have happened, as I pretty much never opened that control window until today that I can recall. Any thoughts are much appreciated.

So, I talked with Matt @ UA via email (fast response - under 2 hours!) He sent me in to ensure the Windows WDM drivers are set the same as what SW needs (16/44.1) as well as what the Twin is running at. The saw that the recording side was set at 24 bit/44.1, so I changed it to 16 bit, but Windows said it's an unsupported format by the device. Is the Twin defaulting @ 24 bit? I open my DAWs and they all show it at 16 bit. More head scratching.

Hi jshep. I am having this exact problem and haven't been able to find a solution after a pretty intense 3 hour search. Were you ever able to figure anything out?

In case any other Apollo Twin and Sonarworks users have this issue, I did find a solution. I don't know the tech aspects of this, something to do Sonarworks reading the WDM audio drivers and the Twin not playing nicely with them. Here's what worked for me though.

I downloaded HIFI-CABLE & ASIO-Bridge from VB-Audio Virtual Apps (Donationware so make sure youleave a few bucks if this works for you too).

After you install ASIO-BRIDGE you need to restart your computer.

Then go into your Windows audio settings. Make sure Playback is set to your Apollo.

Then click on Recording and make sure Hi-Fi Cable Output is selected.

While you're there click properties and then go to the advanced tab to make sure its set to 16/44.1.

Next open up console (also - make sure its at 44.1) then launch the VB audio bridge. In the center, click ASIO device and select the Twin. I plugged my mic into input 1 and then muted it.
VB-Hi-Fi-setup.jpg

Now, open Sonarworks and make your input the Hi-Fi Cable Output.

The output in Sonarworks will be the Twin.

And then find out just how badly off your room is! Hope this helps, happy calibrating.

Thanks audiomutt! I got mine to work after following your steps and overcoming one or two small hiccups. :D

Mother of god... What a difference to hear! Thank you so much!
