UAD-2 solo installation problem

Hi,

I tried to install express card uad-2 solo but no joy so far. I first installed the plugins and the drivers version 6,3,420 but the led keeps on flashing red.

My laptop runs windows 7 home premium 64 bit and I have 16 Gb. Processor is an i7 Q720 1.6 GHz. The display adapter is a ATI Mobility Radeon HD5870.

In the device manager I have 2 new entries upon installation. 1 category has been added called "Audio DSP accelerator" in wich I find the UAD-2 System driver on the other hand there is the category "Other" where I find an "Unknown device"

I already tried to assign a driver, first from a location, Program files(x86)\universal audio\drivers\64... but no cure whatsoever. I also tried to pick the driver from a list and chose the uad-2 solo. The driver was installed but upon reboot I got the dead blue screen. So I uninstalled it.

The red led keeps on blinking, when starting up the uad meter of course no device is found.

Any ideas?

BR,

Marc.

Hi Marc,

Dan from UA Customer Support... Sorry to hear about all the trouble with the UAD2 Solo laptop card. Sounds like a cool laptop system. The only specific system we warn people about would be the Lenovo X200 thinkpads ( not compatible with Solo laptop ).

Your description leads me to believe that the UAD drivers are loading up a'ok. Pip is right on the mark with the comment 'Red light - that looks like a card problem'.

The LED on the card will offer feedback on the condition of the card.

Flashing RED GREEN = Card is 'booting' and connecting with the drivers
Solid GREEN = Card is connected with drivers and is functioning
Solid RED = Card is not connected with drivers. Card is not functioning
Flashing RED or combination Flashing RED/GREEN = Card has some kind of physical issue. Card is not functioning
Flashing BLUE = Do not Taunt Happy Fun Ball... ok I had to throw that one in ; )

In your case the flashing RED LED makes me think we are looking at a physical problem with the UAD2 Solo laptop card OR the ExpressCard slot on the laptop. If you have another ExpressCard device around then plug this into the ExpressCard port to confirm it is working ok. If the ExpressCard port is working then we would suspect a problem with the UAD2 Solo laptop card.

One last note... If you have an ExpressCard/54 port in this laptop then you will be using the EC/54 adapter to allow the EC/34 UAD2 Solo laptop card to fit into the larger slot. Make sure the adapter is connected correctly or you will get incomplete connection of the UAD2 Solo laptop card in the laptop.

General Note: The adapter has two tabs on the bottom and one in the middle that snap into place on the SOLO/Laptop card. To install the adapter, line up the bottom two tabs on the adapter with the corresponding holes on the SOLO/Laptop card. Snap in the middle tab and the adapter will click into place.

It does sound like you have a good background with computers and have already done some of the basic trouble-shooting steps I might suggest. One last thing that you did not mention would be to update the BIOS on the system ( 'BIOS con Dios' ). If it does turn out to be a faulty UAD2 Solo laptop card then always be confident that we have your back... we can always provide a free replacement so you can get back to work

In this case I invite you ( or anyone with a similar issue ) to contact us here directly. We can help you to get this sorted out quickly.
