Now that is how to design a GUI for these EQ's, fiddly dual concentric controls gone, and low frequency to the left with high frequency to the right..

Take note UA -- this is the best useable way to do things ......

The sound files didn't impressed me at all.

This was not the case with their new mastering eq.

seems like IK did a very good job 1

the clips on the ik site are not level matched but eli's examples are , also price point is nice, 14 day demo; just long enough to get hooked :)

I, for one, have never been that impressed with IK software (except maybe ampiitube during the first year it was released). These releases all into my current opinion of IK's software.

Hey, how many of you guys have actually tried these plugins before dismissing them? What is this, GS?

A word of warning, though: comparing these with the UAD equivalents (or any other Neve-modeled EQ plugs) may shock you.

Cheers,
Eddie

True, they really are THAT good. Thanks to the preamp modeling and the interactions with the EQ circuit.

The current UA 1073 and 1081 EQs sound nothing special compared to them.

To be honest, I didn't think IK could do it, I'm impressed.

But now I'm even more excited and waiting to hear the mkII versions by UA, if they are coming...

Sorry, I didn't mean to speculate that based on every other IK emu I've heard, that these would follow a similar pattern.

Having the pre control/tone is nice indeed! I demo'ed them over the weekend, and EQ-wise I don't think these sound quite as good as the UA offerings. I'd like to see what UA does in the future; having the preamp technology in Unison would be much more useful than just a preamp "color" knob. I am also very skeptical when purchasing from IK Multimedia these days; I'm very disappointed they recently killed every single product that I've purchased from over the years far by declaring them all "end of life" because they don't want to port them to AAX. The product would have to be mind-blowing before I give them any more of my cash.

I think their recent offerings are actually quite good: I know I have mentioned many times in the last month how much I have enjoyed the new Master 432 EQ. The tape delay is good and I am trying out the 1073 and it, um, is quite bold, indeed. I don't think IK is a sub-par developer. When you line up UA releases to all of IK's releases, I prefer UA given both developers catalogs but IK does have some serious things going on these days, no doubt.

Anyone who thinks IK is a subpar developer hasn't tried the 432. I personally think that's as good as it gets, on the level of the Massive Passive.

ik line in the development sand; value proposition ?

IK did a fantastic job with these eqs.
I already mixed a session with them with PT 11 on WIN 8 (while my UAD cards wait for AAX)
I don't disagree with what people have said about IK plugs before the 432 and the new 73 and 81, but it sounds to me that IK has stepped up a lot.

I expect UA's neve mk ii to retail for around $300 usd or be $150 usd for upgrade.

Do people think the new ua plugs will be 200% better than IK's ? You can buy the 73/81 at audio deluxe for a little north of $100 usd I think.

Like lots of you, I am in deep with my UA investment, but I think this price point to value competition is a good thing.

a bit unrelated but I can buy a neve diy pre from seven circle for around $500, as a plug gets to be $300 usd, I think about do i want a real pre or a plug ?

Two Kush electra 500 eq's are not crazy money either, so I think plug developers need to be careful about getting past $300 per plug, which is a round about way of me saying I think IK has offered a very good plug at a very good price here.

But each of decides what the right value proposition is.

When i first go UA I thought wow try the neve plugs: personally the 73 and 81 did little for me, so never bought them but yes now very interested in mkii with unison but I am betting they will be $300 plugs for me; doubt I will drop $600 usd on them.

Maybe, but mkII Neves would be the first licensed mkIIs. So far all the mkIIs have been non-partnership plugs. If they don't have at least an added $50 price premium, I will be surprised (and delighted).

Hopefully it'll be like the other MK's and be a single collection of the different versions. If they do split them out like this, I'd probably buy the 73 and not the 81.

ya CH, I am speculating but the normal price is $249 retail and the typical upgrade path is $149, so that would suggest that a neve mkii by upgrade would be roughly a total of $450

Maybe its just me but the $300 usd threshold for a plug is meaningful, but I understand that UA pays royalties ect., so I expect the new neve mk ii to be $300 ish to a first time purchaser ?

ya Eric, agreed ua can get creative with the mkii, like the others, in which case the $150 cost seemed like good value to me and obviously others !
