A long and sad post, sorry!

Just when I thought to focus and strengthen the UAD platform with the purchase of a new octo card and (tons) fx, it turns out that my quad pci card is defective. Of course : five years old, nothing last forever . . sure! I'm not gonna stand here and feel sorry for myself, but I am rather disappointed by customer support (not by stuff, The guy i talked to was so kind) For those reasons :

- European support is partial, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland can get a different fix, other countries must wait different timeline (ok.. I call them again)
- i waited a week to get a reply, another one due the fact that they gotta ask to International support whether that is feasible (ok...no aswer yet... I call them again)
- I get the answer that UAD can't repair cards! (wow!!)
- they can offer me another new quad card at significantly lower price (good) . . .can i swap with an OCTO? NO!!
ok, how much it cost? well... (taken from e mail) "448 USD, a very nice price compared to the retail price of 855 Euro's"
ok, Who will deliver my order? USA or european warehouse? the price is expressed in USD and Euro...sorry man effectively how much it costs me? : i don't know i gotta ask! - Ohhh nooo!!!!!!

There's something I don't understand : seeking around it turns out that people with defective card had received from uad repaired card (??!!)
I feel frustrated ! i can buy another quad and there's no way to upgrade to an octo by themselves??

I was going to invest in an octo asap, even two octo (selling mine first) because I think that there is no more powerfull platform that UAD, But I'm trying to figure out if it'd be worth it. Software is all I have left but if for some reason hardware breaks down is a real problem!
I'm seriously thinking (going in the opposite direction) of selling everything. I can't find the right ratio between Price-reliability.

any suggestions?

Raf

Sorry for your quad man.

That been said i don't know a lot of brand that would give you such a good opportunity on a five year old out of warranty gear.

I would take it.

that is a great deal man, less than half price to get another quad. 4 years out of warranty. if you have the pci slots then i would jump on it.

UA should be praised for this result. it gives me further confidence if the platform actually....well done UA

The price has not been confirmed. . .due customs taxes and shipping cost. in USA warranty is valid for one year, in europe at least 2, extended to 3 without any discussion, no frills " Universal Audio UAD-2 Quad - Thomann Italia "

I'd also take the offered quad (once you've figured in shipping etc). I guess they have quad stock that they need to move and it's good to offer discount for replacements IMO. My quad is playing up a bit and I thought it had died recently but a full reinstall unplugging etc seemed to fix it luckily (for now).

The options for a dead quad aren't great £830 for a new replacement v £1170 for new octo...

My thoughts were I'd get one off eBay or gulp and suck up the costs of an octo. Too much invested in plug ins and knowing my tools to walk away at this stage.

update : I wrote this when I was nervous, not in a rational manner. Even if progress is slow they're taking care of me. I still love the UAD world!
Peace.
