Any love for the Pultec HLF-3C?

I love the EQP-1A and MEQ-5 but whenever I try to use the HLF-3C I end up pulling it off again. Either the steps are too large or it just doesn't sound very good.
I imagine it could be useful for telephone sounding voices or something, but then again so are most other filters.

Do any of you use this plugin frequently? Am I missing something?

I use it a lot on vocals, love the way it sounds. Have also used it on drums, guitars, synths......it may not have many options but it sounds smooth and warm, to my ears!

Should have been a stacked Pultec Pro version. No dithering or downsampling.

Yeah, I get a nice mid on the background vocals without being harsh on the ears. That's what I love about it.

Man do I love the Pultec's! I set down prior to soundcheck a few weeks ago and played the previous nights raw vocal track back auditioning everything in the Universal arsenal. The Pultec's fixed every issue I was facing and don't get me wrong the API was working great but the Pultec just nailed it for this problem.

Sorry got carried away and failed to mention that I'm using the Pultec high-pass as well..

I too use it all the time as I also love the way it sounds! It's quick easy and efficient!

The best laid plans until I start running out of DSP, and realize Satson is just fine.

HLF-3 feels a bit gimmicky to me, it's using Pultec 'cuz I can. ... I just need a darn filter.

Does the Pultec filter really have anything special about it? Any saturation?
It probably does, even though it would typically be the last place I would want to have color if it were in my HW chain LOL.
I have to imagine it was built to be as transparent as possible.

Either way, if someone comments on my high pass on my tambourine during a full song, I'm not sure how I'd feel about it.

good question.. i never used actually and totally forgot about this plugin, thanks for the hint.
i dont like that its stepped and also i dont want to waste uad-2 resources on a "simply" hp filter, but i see imagine using this in the future for certain applications., like mark mentioned for the reverb fx, or maybe the tambourine track ;)

Smooth like a babies bottom....

I'm pretty sure the real thing is entirely passive and doesn't even require power. So transparency and filter smoothness is a big part of this units sound, which for this kind of filter is exactly what i want. Perfect for low end cleaning pultec stylee!
