Updates from UA

Hi all,

I’d like to share some late-breaking news with you. In the spirit of being more open and transparent — with both good and bad news — we wanted to let you know as early as possible.

We have encountered some development issues with Apollo Twin USB just weeks before its intended release. This will delay Twin USB’s release past our original October ship date. We are currently targeting a late-November ship date and will keep you updated in the coming weeks.

The challenges we’re facing with Apollo Twin USB will unfortunately result in a delay of the release of Console 2.0 features for FireWire (Mac and Windows) as well. Though it is disappointing for all of us, there is some good news; much of the work we’re doing for Twin USB will directly benefit Console 2.0 for FireWire.

It’s difficult to deliver this news, but you’ve asked us to be as forthcoming as possible on this forum and I appreciate the opportunity to share with you, even if it’s not the best news. We try to give our best estimates for releases, but when breaking new ground in technology, obstacles are sometimes encountered, and schedules don’t always hold.

Please bear with us and we will keep you informed as we work through these challenges.

Thanks, in advance, for your patience,

-GK

Thanks.

A quick apology for being late and getting it right is a lot better than delivering quickly and having issues.

Even though it doesn't affect me, I appreciate the tone and intent of your post, as well as the fact you guys at UA listened and are acting on your users concerns after a couple of less transparent announcements earlier this year.
Long may it continue and become a wider movement of transparency!

Cheers, Gannon, happy weekend to all!

Now this is good consumer relations. That's the difference between a private company like UA and a public company like Avid/Protools. Avid would have never admitted a delay was necessary because the stock performance would have suffered.

this is how proper communication should work. thanks a bunch. although these delays do not effect me, they do my best friend, who is patiently waiting for the console update for firewire. nobody likes bad news, but going ahead and getting the info out is appropriate and appreciated. thanks.

Thanks so much for the update Gannon! Whilst it's not the best of news for us FireWire types, it is excellent that you have come and let us know what's happening! It is exactly this kind of transparency that makes my investment in UA all the more satisfying 😊

Hey Gannon,
Will we, once the Console 2.0 for Firewire comes out, be able to use the Apollos (a 16 in my case) both on Thunderbolt and Firewire? I have both a newish MacBook and an older MacPro and it would be really cool if I could use the Apollo16 on both Systems. At the moment (I think) the Thunderbolt-Firmware update, disables the firewire ports (except for the use of firewire-peripheals).
Cheers,
Max

Hey Max,

The Thunderbolt/FireWire exclusivity is based in the hardware and firmware.

Right now, you can switch between the two connection types, but you have to upgrade and downgrade the firmware to move between the two and the downgrade from Thunderbolt to FireWire has to be done on a Thunderbolt machine.

The Console update will not change the firmware issue.

Hope that helps!

Hi Gannon,
Not sure if you can answer this or not, but will we see any software updates/new plugins BEFORE the launch of the USB Apollo and Console 2 on FW? Or will that be the next software update, when the USB Apollo is ready...?

It would certainly help to stem the tears if we could entice Gannon to let us know what new plugin goodies await us before AES 😏

Hi guys,

I can't share specifics (for obvious reasons!) but there is a high likelihood that there will be a software release with new plug-ins prior to Twin USB and Console 2.0 for FireWire.

We don't announce the contents of releases because if plans change like they sometimes do, you're spared the disappointment and we're spared the embarrassment. ;)

So, no teasing, but stay tuned!
