UAD API 2500 compressor in SOS March 2016

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet.
In the Rik Simpson interview about him mixing Coldplay it is mentioned that he used the UAD API 2500 compressor on the drums.
Typo you think? :)

Oh boy, here we go...

Could be a typo and a reference to the Waves 2500...

On the other hand, is the timing is right for it to be a beta version of an upcoming UAD release? Certainly heads up the current request list, I would say.

Gannon, as a question of fact, did Rik Simpson use a UAD 2500 on a recent Coldplay track? Can you perhaps confirm that he did not? It will save a lot of keystrokes if you can...

I don't think it's a typo.

It would be a shame to mix up Waves and UAD.

No way?! ...

damn it! - why Coldplay?....why, of all that is the diet coke of U2, why?!

"...and so it was, the long awaited, highly anticipated arrival of UA's plug-in iteration of the coveted API-2500 compressor makes it's first appearance adjoined to the metaphorical equivalence of a silent fart."

I sure hope it's true, and I even like the Waves 2500, BUT..........I don't like the Waves business model, NO MORE Waves for me ! Bring it on UA.

Yeah! I have the Waves API-2500 and it is a nice plugin. I use it on every song. It has become my go-to buss compressor. I would really like to see UA top it. I would definitely buy it.

I guess from the above that you are not much of a Coldplay fan........

I just think that time & time again they take a bunch of cool ingredients, distill & water them down and when it is all said and done, it is just kinda dull. Then, somehow, they get a ton of promotion like they just released 'Achtung Baby' and when I listen to it, I don't hear any of that type of truly adventurous spirit - I hear a good, distinct voice but what he does with it along with the music comes off as, well, banal - to my ears.

I've always been extra hard on them because I feel like I am being sold a bill of goods, like an amazing interface with a free DSP box, but the DSP box just never shows up, i dunno. (too soon?) ;) This pretty much sums it up:http://www.rollingstone.com/music/n...ollab-its-not-a-very-good-song-is-it-20160119

ugh, I shouldn't be such a jerk - They are fine if I am listening to Satellite radio and a song of theirs happens to get sandwiched between the Stereophonics and...say, Passion Pit.

I have been waiting for the 2500 for a long time, I have been trying to predict its arrival for well over a year whenever it seems like an UAD update is eminent. I actually, purposely, stopped predicting it in recent 'whats next?' type-threads because I thought I might somehow be cursing it - ha! At any rate, based on the behavior and how I would use the waves 2500, I found the Valley People Dyna-mite approaches what I was after quite admirably so i'll admit, more recently, when I finally checked out and then immediately bought the dyna-mite, my yearning for the API was tempered some, but I am still eager for it.

I think someone else summed it up best when they said that Coldplay is the U2 of our generation.

(In case you happen to be a U2 fan, that's not a compliment)

I am a U2 fan up to Achtung Baby - thought that one in particular was strong, dark yet exciting - VERY textural, so I do take some exception to that. I think U2 did offer some vigor & willingness to take risks that I don't hear in Coldplay's music. But, after Achtung...meh, and well, actually, maybe it is more accurate to say that I am an Eno, Lillywhite and Lanois fan, first and foremost.

And I could be wrong but I thought though Lillywhite was an SSL junky, over the years he kinda grew to like the API-2500 in particular so it is a great tie-in to get back on topic (and please pardon me for derailing it)

Never listened to them much (and initially they struck me as a U2 wannabe), but "Ghost Stories" is a treat to listen to, even if the music isn't exactly what you're into. Gorgeous record.

Based on that, I picked up the new one, and don't think it's even close to the previous.

So I think I was a fan for one record.

haha, you are definitely not alone in feeling this way. I even bristle at the mentioning of the name "Coldplay". Blech. My good friend is from Scottland, and he has this term for Coldplay and all things that are very very bland - he refers to them as "the brothers of the beige". ... "a bunch of khaki wankers" .... exactly how I feel as well.

:D

Back to API2500. I hope they spent enough time perfecting it and its on par with the mk2 1176.

Very low price when you sign in and get the extra discount! Is this a preemptive strike by Waves in anticipation of UAD's next move?
Yeah it's a great deal. I'm very tempted to get it even though I have the API Vision and UAD 500 series. But cheap or not, I have other holes to put that money into.

In a very specific, particular way, I can't get the compressor on the Vision to do what the Waves' 2500 does and I don't believe it is the incidental/consequential result of Waves' dated modeling or coding (not knocking it, it is just old - both Waves & UA have upped their methods since then). As stated earlier, I have achieved closer results with the Valley People Dyna-mite in that sort of 'knock-punch' compression 'color' ...even more than the dBx 160. I presently think that the 2500 just 'sounds' different than the Vision's 225L - maybe it is all the 2500's thrust control...not sure. That said, I would love to hear what UA's version can do.

ha! I think they had the opportunity to have spent PLENTY of time based purely on when UA started 'hinting' that it was in the works - considering some conspicuous promo pics with the 2500 racked up in the background next to a ton of previously modeled outboard. These perceived 'teaser' pics go back years - maybe two or three, so yes. I'd say that they have had ample time to knock this one out of the park.

interesting, the Waves sale could be a tell-tale
