New Moog filter vs. old one

On the new Moog plugin, is the sound of the filter itself new/updated/"Mk 2"? Or is it it just the same filter with new modulation/sequencing features?

Aaaaand I knew I should have read the manual before I posted... just saw that the filter model is indeed updated.

Yeah, it sounds very different from the legacy version so I figured it had to be a rewrite. That's the way UA tend to do things anyway.

so if the filter sounds different, what about the drive? Identical, or also updated?

The drive on V1 was unrivaled by any Native plugins at release.

ok great, so what I am asking is how the drive is on the newest update to the Moog? Still identical to the original plugin release, or has that too seen some changes to its processing quality, that differs from that of the first plugin?

Completely different sounding.

It feels a bit cleaner in the high end, less muddy.

It's hard to say exactly cause I have only used the drive in combination with other stuff going on with the new one but i would grab it, its a totally different beast in every way.

What's cool is you can control the drive with the internal step sequencer which is fun. I do a small amount of that just to give it a bit more movement/analog feel though the whole thing of course just drips it with analog color.

The closest thing the filter sounds too is the sub37 which I own and which its modeled after but even owning the original plugin and the sub37 I knew in 10 seconds I was buying this plugin.

Thanks so much for sharing, I do appreciate it. I am glad to hear that the drive is also different in this new version. Not that I had any issues with the drive in the original plugin release, but I was curious just how different this new version was to the old all around and mainly outside of the filters and gui itself.

I am curious what you guys are using this filter on?

With the old one, I struggled to find uses for it, I may have used it 2 or 3 times on a synth, and it's character can kind of take over an entire song ideas.

edit: there probably isn't a better way to automate some movement and girth than to have this loaded up somewhere. - Like a secret sauce.

I hear what you are saying. Due to how limited it was in terms of the GUI interaction and the 12k cutoff, I didn't use it much either, but it was nice when it did work. I found I got more mileage out of the various filters found inside of HALion 6, so that is what I have stuck with. The GUI interaction on the new Moog still sucks and is completely outdated, but it should be easier to automate and find uses for it, due to its step programmer, higher cutoff range, multiple destinations for the envelope etc.

have not seen u in awhile Cantankerous, hope all is well.

I am right on the verge of upgrading to H6, if I am guessing you use Cubase the automation will not do the Moog Filter justice LOL

The moog on a bad itb organ patch is nice. Turn off the vibrato in the synth patch and use the Mood LFO and automate it as good as you can!

Hi there. Yes, it has been quite some time, for sure! Life has certainly changed for me, as well as my outlook on various things, so frequenting here is something I just never did. Been a few years since I was last on here actually, but will chime in now occasionally on topics that I feel passionate about. Thanks for remembering me and letting me know.

HALion 6 is quite nice. Lots under the hood has changed, with lots coming I am sure. Most of it is in the synth department, but it also introduced full scripting, macro editing etc, so definitely a bigger beast, but with the same workflow and GUI as HALion 4 and 5 which is nice. I feel it is worth getting, but then again, I have always been a lover of HALion and have always sung its praises, so I could be a bit biased towards it.

Macro page is a HUGE deal in Halion 6, and it was something everyone asked for. In some ways Halion is covering features that we want in the DAW itself. Basically they are the quick controls the way I want them to work.
