Red LED blinking on UAD-2 on startup

I have just purchased an UAD-2 from DV247.com in UK. I have installed it in my brand new PC with an ASUS P5K motherboard. I have installed the software first, installed the card, after power up the driver installs itself (with the LED flashing red to green), and the card work fine (LED solid green).

Next day, on power up, the UAD-2 LED emits a blinking red (4 times and again) and isn't recognized by the UAD meter. Same on further reboots.

I have uninstalled the drivers, taken out the card, re installed the driver, swapped the card to the only other PCI-e slot, reboot ; fine, card's back. this morning, again the card won't power up, same blinking red LED.

The UAD-1 installed on the same system on a PCI slots works fine each time, but when the UAD-2 fails to power up, my authorizations are no longer considered valid. But when the UAD-2 is back to work after the slot swap, plugins authorizations are back.

Any idea what is wrong with my card ?

I have just realized that when I'm doing the install of the card the PC is placed horizontally, and I have noticed the UAD-2 doesn't sit very well in the slot ; and it when doesn't power up it is when the PC unit is in the normal upright position (with the MoBo vertical) ; can it be the explanation ? I must try to place the PC sideways when I get back to the studio and see if the UAD-2 starts again

After crashes sometimes my card would not get recognized, or my authorizations gone, sometimes rebooting again would fix that sometimes not, I uninstalled one time and then it would only reinstall 1 driver (the UAD-2 has 2 drivers if you look in device manager).

I checked my card but it's in solid and straight. I hope this is a software issue and they'll sort it out (I know they're fxing stuff on the Mac side with the 8 core problems) Best thing would be to email UA about it to make sure they are aware of the issue.

Of course I have emailed UAD Support before posting on the forum. But I think it is important to try to identify if it's an isolated problem (my card / my computer) or a general issue.

I am very confident that UAudio will help me cure this problem, and when the UAD-2 operates on my systme, I find it a tremendous boost over my previous 2 UAD-1 setup .

I have read quite a few posts about cards not properly inserting or sitting well when installed.

I had the same problems. I send my card back. Now i wait for the new one (out of stock).
A mail to UAD only brought the standardmail with the card and software deinstallation and trying other slots. But this shows definitly no aprovement. My hope is a new card does.

Hey, stupor, please report back when you get the new card, to see if it's worth for all of us with bad sitting cards to send them back !

Hey, I have the same problem. Dont bother moving the card or changing the computer position. What happens is, after a long period of the comp being off, turning it on initially the uad card doesnt communicate with the comp for some reason. if you turn it off and turn it right back on again, the card should be working fine. So its either the card, drivers, or the PCIe technology or a little of everything. UA of course tells me "theyve never had this problem" which to typical logic means it just cant be the card at all. a little annoying.

Re: Red LED blinking

I just had a big ass crash while offline processing a small chunk of audio with the RE-201, when I rebooted, the red light was blinking too, I did several reboots and no success. The card was gone in the system's Device Manager too.

Then I removed the card, put it back in the slot and rebooted... I noticed the led was blinking from red to green, once XP loaded it stayed green, just to be sure I drag & dropped the authorization file to the UAD2 meter.

Just loaded the C4 project and nothing seems to be lost and working properly, weird shit this

When the red light blinks during early computer startup, now I just power off the PC and then back on, usually the card starts normally at second tsartup (red to green flashing then solid green) ; I am now enjoying the power of my quad.

Yeah same here, second startup. But, do you really wana be turning your computer off and on again everytime? There has to be a reason why the card doesnt initialize upon first startup

After a few weeks, yesterday was the day.
I recieved my displacement card.
Put it in and it works from the beginning.

So it seems there are a few bad cards in orbital.

I'm going from bad to worse ; now the card stop performing and halts my DAWs (Sonar 7 and Reaper) after 20 or less minutes of session work (even without any plugin running) and despite the UAD pannel saying the card is fine, the LED is now solid red ; at first, a reboot seemed to cure this, so I was thinking it was some kind of driver / plugin / DAWs / Windows error, but now the card's LED is solid red everytime and prevents me to load my projects when there are UAD plugins inserted (the DAW halts with an error). I have contacted UAD wether they can confirm my card is defective so I can send it back, but reading your post stupor inclines me to think I must get a replacement card.

I am very sorry to hear about this. I feel sad for you. I hope you can get it straightened out.

Did you switch slots by any chance to see if one fares better than another?

I myself have my card in a 16x physical slot without issues. I know Hannah Audio has the same. Perhaps these 16x slots fare better with the UAD-2 installed into them over the 1x slots.

I went and did a total removal of all uad software and drivers (2 UAD-1, 1 Uad-2 currently) from My Windows XP Pro system.
rebooted,
Ran a registry cleaner (ccleaner)
removed all uad entries
rebooted
Ran a registry cleaner (ccleaner) again just to confirm no more UAD entries
removed all uad entries
rebooted
reinstalled all uad software.
Now when I power down the system and reboot, it seems to be fine now. I will have to confirm for sure after a few more reboots.
before I did this, the Uad-2 card would "disappear" every time I rebooted.
I would have to reinstall the software in order for the UAD-2 to show up But, the Uad-1 cards would always show up.
just a weird FYI, for someone to try that is having issues

Solution ? The UPS van has just taken my defective card back to the store and I am currently waiting for a replacement card. Hope that one will work right from the start.
