New to UAD. Advice for improving my Tech House/Techno production

Hi guys,

Looking for some advice on where to start. I've been producing house and techno now for about 3 years (DJing for 14yrs).

I feel my music is getting close but really need help giving it that final push.

I see a lot of pros using UAD plugins but being mindful of budget I want to make the right decisions.

What would be the most essential tools you guys would recommend to help improve the quality of my production?

I'm currently current setup is...
27" iMac
Software: Live 9 Suite, Logic Pro X (amazing in the box tools, although can't get on with the workflow)
Slate VCC
Isotope Ozone 6
Hardware: access virus ti2, mackie MCU, Ableton Push, Yamaha HS80m's.
Room treatment: Primacoustic London 8 kit.

Thanks,
Simon

Do you create all your materials constituent parts or buy/copy them? or a mixture? As in like loops etc.....
Buy the looks of it, it would not be your own material.

It's a mix mate.

So I've got the Virus for bass leads and pads etc. Then my go to soft synths are Massive and Serum.

The only sample packs I buy are from the tech house guys that I'm into - I find these are the best quality for what I'm doing. That said, the only samples I really use are hats, claps snares etc. Preferably individual instruments though (not premixed loops).

Actually, other plugins I use for processing are Maxxbass, Bass rider, Alloy2 and Nectar.

You're in good shape. Start with a UAD-2 Satellite Thunderbolt OCTO, then get the Lexicon 224, Analog Classics Pro Plug-in Bundle (they will give you a $300 discount on it), Roland Classic FX Plug-in Bundle, API Vision, Moog Filter, and a good buss compressor (either the Fairchild Mk2, Manley Vari-MU, or Neve 33609). The Magnetic Tape Plug-in Bundle, Massenburg EQ, and EP-34 might also be good choices

Scruby:
Start with a UAD-2 Satellite Thunderbolt OCTO (8 SHARC DSP Processors)
Depending on whether you wan to focus on tracking/production or more Mixing/Mastering will guide your purchase of plug-ins.
A couple of things: 1: Some UA plugs are DSP hungry!!! Glad you purchased the Octo.
2: UA makes some fantastic replications of classic and newer hardware. When make a decision, remember to consider whether you want a 'classic' sound or something more towards latest and greatest hardware. UA makes some bundles for things like 1176 and LA-2A Comps. If you have a favorite console channel, you can choose from API, NEVE and SSL.
3: UA makes some fine mastering plug-ins as well. There is even a bundle that includes all the mastering plugs.
4: Watch out for monthly sales, specials and end of year blowout deals.
5: It's always a good idea to get a second opinion... i.e. competition in the plug-in area. You might find something that speaks to you without the heady sticker shock of some UA plugs.

Have a great day, enjoy what you do and as always, fix it before the mic!!!
