some interesting development info from one of the posters (Spock) at Realgear Online:

"FWIW, we had the guys (Maserati, Hewitt, Chiccarelli, Kadish, Willing) testing it for the last few months, and the plugin has been used on projects like Beyonce's Lemonade album. Tony uses his hardware unit on the mix bus, and then the plugin for individuals tracks. Ryan Hewitt and Kevin Kadish, both have their hardware Curve Benders on mix bus and instantiate the plugin on individual tracks as well. Softube & UA did a great job on the plugin. We really hope you all enjoy it."

Interesting that they didn't replace it on for the master bus duty, it's primary job.

Nice job Kat ! I really want to thank you to share with us this info about the Curve Bender ( and big thanks to Wade too ;) )
You gave me the force to keep my Satellite octo voucher during near 2 months !

I just pick up these 2 FenderBenders ( Fender amp , Softube Curve Bender ) plus Brainworx SVTSR for FREE :)
Now I'm finally happy !
Sometimes , we have to claim " I'm glab to be aboard on the UA boat ! nice sounds, nice gear, nice guys ! ) :)

Big kisses to Gannon too : he is the nicest guy of the playground !

Hassle to route, process and tweak hardware across individual tracks with no recall and less so with instance on bus where arguably if there are differences with hardware, will notice it most there. That convenience and recall factor putting hardware on every track must be tempting even for the most well equipped studios. And then there is always those deadline things while your experimenting with hardware gear on every track. As a home ITB guy the entire mix is only going to get the uad plugin. And my neighbors are going to thank uad that my fender tube amp might get a rest with the new uad fender especially late at night. Was wailing on the fender with uad tape delay and bx20 late last night. Closed the computer and dimmed the lights and just me and the Apollo - my only outboard gear :). It's s good time to be a home ITB guy ...

We're doing tests today on our curve bender vs the plugin on the master. Simply matching settings and bouncing the track through each. Will report back with our findings.

So. Just swapped the curve bender hardware for the plugin on a track we're mixing. First impressions; we won't be selling the hardware. Which is a shame, because we wanted to be able to! (I did a blind ABX test, not knowing what was what).

Re-read the quote in post one. Read how they are using the plugin and were they are not. Our tests and ears are telling us the sane thing!

What did you hear when you compared them? How do they differ?

Update: Just turned off the "Stereo Link" on the plugin and it's now sounding more like the HW, starting to feel right, got us intrigued. Will report again when we try it again on a new mix. Cheers

Dan, try patching out and in DA AD for the plugin as well. Some converters add their own smidge of grit by going out and back. When I tested the 160 plugins vs the hardware I did that and it certainly made a difference. Obviously, defeats the point of a plugin at some point, but once you win your mind over that it's really close you can start using it without reservation.

Nice tip! The HW is going through an Orion 32 in that room.

..was going to suggest that if you hadn't already done it. Also, be sure to listen to the plugin in mid/side mode because that's really where I think this mamma-jamma shines. (obviously you can't really A/B the hardware with a mid/side setting, but still).

For my mastering duties, since I don't own a Chandler CurveBender and had been using the Waves RS56 for mid/side, I'm definitely picking this one up. Total no-brainer for me. :)

Definitely interested in hearing about your head-to-head straight up A/B test.
