Powered Plugins use my Host-CPU instead of UAD Card DSP

Although the UAD DSP Meter & Control Panel shows only 52% DSP usage,
the powerded UAD plugins are using my Host CPU ?

What went wrong ?

PC-Windows 7 64 bit, UAD-DUO PCI card

Thanks for answers

ua plug ins do not use your host cpu. they can only run on sharc chips, check you metres in console bottom left to see ua cpu usage .

Hey Kcatthedog,

thank you for your quick response.

If you click the System CPU-Usage button in Studio one (my hostsoftware) you can see all the host plugins and all
UAD-Plugins in the devices list, taking CPU power from the host

Normaly UAD plugins have no effect on the host CPU-Power but now they do. (Cambrige, Pultec, N 1176,... every plugin takes away some % of cpu. This is crazy)
My CPU Usage went up to 100 % only because of the UAD Plugins
UAD Levelmeter still 52 %

Thank you for any hints

How much is each UAD plug-in consuming in Studio One? I'm running Studio One Pro 2.6.5 and Win7 64 SP1. The UAD plug-ins do cause a small amount of DAW CPU consumption. On my system it's typically 1% or less per active UAD plug in at 44.1.

This issue may be more appropriate for the PreSonus forum or customer support. I don't think its a UAD issue.

this must be something unique to S1 and I wonder if it is actually true ?

the ua plugs definitely run on the sharcs but perhaps your host is using some cycles handholding with ua software but I wouldn't think anything significant ?

the daw, host and ua have to talk to work but i would have thought minimal host cpu hit ?you know Russ at pro tools expert uses studio 1 and ua could post there too. I haven't heard of this before though ?

It's not an issue for me. I haven't seen the high CPU consumption the OP seems to have. I only see the UA plug-ins tickle 1% from time to time. There is no constant or high CPU usage.

Kcatthedog, I agree that it is most likely related to the DAW overhead communicating to the UA plug-ins.

I just did a quick check to compare Studio Ones CPU meter to the Windows CPU meter in Task Manager. For the project I have open at 44.1, 256 samples the Studio One meter is at 25% while the Windows CPU meter shows 10%. When I increase the sample rate to 88.2 the meters go to 44% and 20% respectively. When I change to 64 samples at 44.1 CPU goes to ~50% and 20% respectively. It appears the Studio One CPU meter does not show actual CPU consumption.

ya > 1% is normal there has to be some communication between the softwares was my understanding; thx for checking with v8 being new you never now there could be a bug.

Wow! I've never seen that before. What version of Studio One are you running?

Hallo,

Studio One 2 Professionell, the latest version (2.6.5)
I also have a delay on the ua plugins.
This all occurrs from one moment to another during a mix session. UAD DSP load was almost full (92%) but all my system working fine.
CPU about 10 %
Then.....suddenly CPU went up to almost 100 % , UAD-DSP level meter went down, and the plugins had a delay.
Maybe my UAD Card screwed up.

Bringing this thread back to life with the same issue. Was there ever an explanation? Studio one 4.6 and Apollo X8. I notice significant host CPU drain (10% per VST instance of legacy LA2A comps) when I’m at 32 sample buffer size. Goes to 0-1% at 512 or higher. None of my host VSTs exhibit this behavior.
