Apollo Twin USB Crackling on my monitors

Hello there,

today i git my Apollo Twin USB. Setting it up was easy. But during Audio playback (Windows Sounds/DAW, Cubase) i hear a constant crackling while playing Audio.
I already tried:

- Setting buffer size up (didn´t solve the problem)
- Choose a different USB3-Port (didn´t solve the problem)
- restarting PC (didn´t solve the problem)
- Checked DPC Latency

Has anyone an idea, how to solve this problem?

Best regards
Flohre

Hello,

I´m getting the same issue on audio playback in Windows 10 and DAW (Studio One 3). I´ve also tried the same as Flohre and made a Hardware Reset but nothing could solve the problem???

Hi, do you mind telling me which version of win 10 you are running, have you installed the TH2 update for windows 10 to vers 1511? I am having problems getting any sound output and wonder if that update makes any difference...as I haven't installed that update (it broke cubase so I rolled back)

Hi, it´s version 1511. But what do you mean with TH2 update??? I will try some Bios settings...but I´ve no idea how to deal with this problem...

@Kcatthedog: You´re right, but Gannon said, they´ve encountered no problems so far...!

Okay, we´re not alone, but this seems to be a rare bug. Couldn´t find similar issues related to the Apollo Twin USB so far.

Hi, the 1511 update was labeled Threshold 2 (hence TH2 if I remember rightly) and was released in November as the first update for win10 - but if it's a new machine then it was maybe pre-installed...on input everything sounds great as it should, just no playback is happening either in Cubase or windows media player...I have other ways to record so i'm not worried by it, they will sort it or I will...

Have you tried setting the buffer setting lower? I'm also running the USB twin on Windows 10 (but with Pro Tools) and not having any problems. On the support page there's a little blurb that says it has trouble with buffer sizes over 2048. Mine is currently set to 512, trying lowering it and restarting and see if that fixes it.

Here's Gannon's reply about win10 comparability (from two weeks ago):

I don't have a date for Windows 10 qualification to share just yet.

We know it's working for some people but others are reporting issues, so it's certainly not 100%.

You could try installing 8.5 on your machine and give it a whirl. If it doesn't work, you can revert to your current version.

Cheers!

Yes, I´ve read this. But Flohre is on 8.1 and has the same problem. By the way the only setting, that works for me withiout crackling at the moment ist 88.2khz with a 512 buffer. Beside this, the latest driver seems to be very unstable, because sometimes the DAW doesn´t recognize the interface and somtimes but rarely it looses its connection to the machine. A reboot doesn´t help. Only a complete shutdown, then powering on the Apollo and then the PC....

Regarding Windows compatibility:

Apollo Twin USB systems are qualified for Windows 7 64-bit and Windows 8.1

We are in the process of qualifying Windows 10 and have not encountered any issues with it so far, but it's not officially qualified. We will announce it as it gets closer.

Hope that helps!

Hi,

regarding crackling I have something similar here with my RME UC.
Here the reason is definetely the WLAN Stick sending and recieving data.

I am looking forward to my Apollo USB which I can test next saturday, and yes, I am running Windows 10 as well.
Doesnt matter if its not supported yet, it will be the future on the windows platform plus its already there!

Try turning OFF........Bluetooth, WiFi, and your internet connection. I have had to do this on many Windows machines to eliminate this with many other USB and Firewire interfaces.
