APOLLO TWIN USB3 Compatibility Issues..What EXACTLY are the issues?RE:WINDOWS 7

    Greetings to all,
Firstly, I have contacted support regarding issues getting my Apollo Twin Duo up and running . I understand there are "compatibility issues" and I have read and re-read through the lists of information provided by UA associated with this topic, but I cannot find anything anywhere that specifies precisely what the compatibility issues are exactly.
Can anyone from the forum or UA provide some insight that would help me to help myself to understand precisely what the compatibility issues are?

If I could better understand what the actual compatibility issues are exactly then perhaps I can find a solution on my own..
For the matter of this post, I have implemented all the recommended optimisations suggested by UA on my purpose built pro audio computer(s), most of which had already been done when the machines were first built less than 2 years ago.
My studio' computer(s) builder is scheduled to come through and give my systems a check up and thorough servicing, any information that explains that exact and specific nature of these compatibility issues would be greatly appreciated. happy new year to all!
    regards,
    gene

Specific USB 3 chipsets are required. I'll see if I can pull a link that will shed light.

Also, there's a difference between USB 3.0 High-Speed and USB 3.0 SuperSpeed. If your controller lists High-Speed, it will not work properly.

There's also a Win 10 update that enforces driver signing. The workaround is listed here - WINDOWS 1607 APOLLO TWIN USB- Windows 10 Enforces Unsigned Driver Ban

    Hi Matt,
Thank you so much for sharing these links. I was aware of the general requirements but was not getting anywhere with the specific known issues with usb 3 chipsets. I'll give this a read and if I come across anything I think might help others with similar concerns or issues, I'll post here in this thread.
    Kind regards , gene

    Hi Matt,

I notice that UA don't recommend USB 3 controller chips from the following manufacturers are are not recommended for use with Apollo Twin USB:
    Texas Instruments
    Etron
    Fresco Logic
    ASMedia

Yet they DO recommend ASUS X99-A LGA 2011-v3 which does have the ASMedia® USB 3.0 controller.

So that seems a little confusing.

From what very little I have been able to gather on this topic, it is less to do with specific usb chipsets and more to do with driver signings recognising UA drivers. In another thread, there is an admission of this and also very unspecified suggestion that a new driver update is coming from UA, but no mention of a time frame or explanation to assure USB3 Twin owners that they can expect this driver update anytime soon. In a nut, it's not the USB3 chipsets that seem to be the issue, it's that version 9.0 UAD patch is the issue. There is a work around suggested in another thread as well, but it sounds tedious and risky to system stability, not something I personally would attempt. I'm on a purpose built pro audio configured machine that is more than robust and suitable for audio work in every way and with myriads of 3rd party tools integrated.
There can be no plausible explanation that any chipsets listed above are the root of the problem.
IMO, the known issues should be posted in bold and atop the Apollo Twin USB3 site page so that buyers aren't misled about the performance capability of this particular model of the Twin. Especially if the much needed driver update is not a priority for UAD to release as soon as possible. If no update is forthcoming in the next few weeks or an announcement regarding a release date, I would start to ponder whether or not UAD intends to quietly abandon this product line and leave owners with a beautifully designed boat anchor for a purchase.

In case anyone else missed this, UAD has released 9.0.2 software. No mention if this addresses the issues with usb3 compatibility. Seems to be more intended for the new mk2 modeWhy are their release notes so vague ?

Got to speak with Customer Support today, was a very informative conversation.
The usb3 update will come as a patch to fix some compatibility issues, but not all.
No time frame for releasing this update was given. Assurances were given that this is a priority for UA quality assurance.
The existing "not recommended " usb3 chipsets are likely to never work with Apollo Twin, per CS.
For Windows 7 64 bit owners, the host computer must be connected to the internet while performing the install for Console software.
The suggested pcie to usb3 cards are not limited to those brands but should and have in most cases, provided a solid work around reliable solution to motherboard mounted usb3 chipsets listed as "not recommended" on UA site.
The suggested pci/e cards seem to have Renansas drivers, so if that part of any pci/e card purchase can be confirmed, it seems plausible that purchase will lead to a happy ending.
It's still not a clear picture about what the driver signing problems are, and considering that Fresco Media and ASmedia chipsets are commonly used by pro audio computer builders, it would stand to reason that something needs sorting out on the UA end of things ASAP and I feel that prolific communication on the part of UA about this would go a long way to sparing new Twin USB3 customers a bunch of unnecessary distress over their expensive purchase, considering that in most purchase situations outside the U.S., there is no refund or return policies and even more wide spread outside the U.S. , items made by UA and UAD are pre-ordered / special order items which again, are more often than not, non refundable/nonreturnable.
Effective substantive communication is a great sign of respect, particularly in this day and age when most are much better at ignoring one and other.
While my own issues with the Twin seemed to be near resolve, I hope and wish for others that they too may find a solution and get a crack at using this incredible software and this remarkable device called the Twin.
    kind regards
