Locked User presets

Is anyone experiencing locked USER preset files after creating them? Over the past few months I've had user folders and preset files that I created showing as locked after restarting my system (iMac 5k, Yosemite). The files are not locked on the OS level, only on the UA browser, and all file names are different than UA preset file names. I have a test set up to check a folder created from Finder, not in the Console app to see if this helps. I've sent a support request but no response yet.

Am I more unique than I thought or is anyone else experiencing this?

The reply from support today (quick response) claiming all the locked files were factory presets behaving normally implies they didn't take a close look at the screen grab PDF evidence I sent. Followed up today with more screen grab evidence of the problem, hope to hear back soon with more constructive instructions. A quick check from the Preset browser (Console 2) shows 90% of my own presets and folders with my own names are now locked. It SEEMS (not sure yet) that folders created from OS X Finder window instead of the Preset Browser window are staying unlocked, could be a work-around.

After several timely and useful responses from UAD Support this issue may be addressed, although not completely resolved.

OS X file permission handling may be at the root (pun misapplied?) of the problem. Frequent running of the Mac Disk Utility Permissions Repair tool (good practice anyway on Macs from the early OS X/Unix days) may prevent this from happening. Also, do NOT create preset folders or move preset files using Finder. As of today, folders created from the Console Preset browser retain their unlocked status, and presets loaded then saved to these user folders remain unlocked.

The remaining mystery is how to delete the unintentionally-locked folders or presets from the Console Browser. When a locked item is selected the DELETE button disappears. Stay tuned...

Hi UnitedWestern,

I have the same issue. I don't know what cause it and how to fix it. :(

So you still don't know how to unlock user presets?

Nothing conclusive yet. In fact, after my 9.1 update ALL user presets and folders were locked. User folders and presets created AFTER the update seem to be retaining their unlocked status. According to support you and I are the only ones experiencing this issue. I'm emailing support now, I'll get back when I have some news...

After installing Sierra and Logic 3 and reinstalling Console 9.1 the problem persists. Looks like every usage of the 9.1 installer locks all of my user presets and folders. Waiting for support response to today's email...

I posted this in the other thread on this as well

Here's how to fix the locked UAD Console plugin presets on a Mac.

Go to ~/Library/Application Support/Universal Audio

Click once on the "Presets" folder then type "⌘I" to open the "Presets" folder's information window.

Click on the Lock icon at the bottom right of that window and enter your Administrator password.

Change all of the Privileges to "Read & Write"

Click on the Gear icon near the bottom left of the window and choose "Apply to Enclosed Items"

When asked if you want to do that say "OK".

You might have to reboot to make the changes take effect.

Is anyone else aware of, or care about, all user presets and folders being locked after running the installer?

Also true for the 9.2 installer. This is now a known issue, no claim was made to have it fixed for the 9.2 release.

As I'm about to update to 9.5 I suspect the preset locking problem will still exist, OS file management hours will be logged. An even more annoying problem is determining which presets are loaded after a system reboot and reloading the Console app. Unless I'm missing something it's impossible to tell from the application displays which preset name is in use (except for the global Console preset). Loading presets from an OS Finder window might help if the window is sorted by date as long as you haven't moved preset files. If anyone has a solution to this housekeeping issue let me know...

As I suspected, my user presets were once again locked after running the 9.5.1 installer. I'm building quite a collection of locked folders.

Amazing how this issue is still an issue, after how many years, updates and bug fixes? I just realised that all my user preset are locked again.
I usually manage to unlock them after some fiddling around, but I haven't so far found a reliable, repeatable way to do so. It always only works by chance.
Still, that's a bug that NEEDS addressing, before we want all these new plugins and features! C'mon UAD!

This works every time for me.

Locate them in the Finder.

Library/app support/UA/presets/channelstrip

Single click on the channelstrip folder and press Command-I. Lower left corner click the Lock icon to unlock.

Adjust permissions as needed, then use the gear icon to select apply to enclosed items.

You'll need to restart computer/Console.

Yes, it seems to work. But WHY?
Why is it so hard to fix this bug? It's been acknowledged by UAD, and the oldest threads about it are many years old.
It's not a major bug, granted, but it's bloody annoying and totally unnecessary! Please, for once, release a real bugfix, one that deserves that name, before you tempt us with new plugins!

No clue, I'm not a programer. But presumably if it were a simple one, it would have happened, right?

Everything looks simple from the outside. Thanks for your patience.

Either this, or they don't deem this issue to be a pressing one. Maybe I'm naive here, but I doubt fixing this bug can be more complicated than coding an entire new plugin from scratch to the point that it works reliably...

Just wanted to say that this latest update (9.10.2) for the first time didn't lock my user presets! Finally!!! Thanks UAD, this was becoming rather annoying!
I hope I'm not the only one :)
