Actually, there are many more TB macs than those with USB 3. However, there are more Mac Pros in studio use than studio use TB macs.

so is this not a reason to support also the old mac Pros with compatibility ?? Ok, technically it is not possible to upgrade an old mac pro with a TB card so we have to lieve with that.

but for this reason it would be nice to make USB3 compatible on OSX at least

On the contrary, I think it would REALLY excellent to have it work on Mac—especially Mac Pro's.
    simonjewel and BigAl like this.

I agree, but listen to this...

I had several Mac Pro's and none of them came with thunderbolt. Now the new Mac Pros with thunderbolt cost at least $3,000 and that's without a monitor. The Apple display for the new Mac Pro is not even a 4 or 5k display. It's like the Mac Pros were long forgotten and this has been discussed on numerous occasion by many hardware manufactures. If I were to do it again, I will purchase the iMac and daisy chain the hard drives via thunderbolt. At least the iMac can be purchased with a 5k display.

I think the bulk of the problem is Apple because none of my Mac Pros are usb-3 and this was a standard on Window machines. The new Mac Pros now come with usb-3 and let's not forget that Apple just completely abandon firewire and the PCI-e expansion slots! What a shame. Apple market the Mac Pros because of firewire and now it long forgotten. What do we supposed to do with all of our external gear that's firewire?

We will not get the full benefit for usb-3 and this is well understood by Universal Audio, but at least UAD can considered drivers for the new Mac Pros. Although Mac Pro users are a small percentage, I will never buy another one, but that's just me. Even Apogee abandon the Mac Pros and they left us with no future updates for their symphony-32 channel audio cards. I can go on and on...

The reason why I am here is because of compatibility issues with my Mac Pros. I need a new converter and I cannot find a good converter (DAC) for my glorified Mac Pro tower with xeon processors that's already out dated. What a shame because I cannot find anything of good quality that will interface with it. Any input will be appreciated regarding a converter from UAD.

Also, is there not an issue with cascading multiple units/systems over USB3? I don't claim to be a tech expert on these things but that is what I thought I read somewhere. If that is true, I have to think UA believes TB to be, currently, the best protocol for their interface platform. In their minds, the Apollo 8's are the benchmark, all other units are a series of concessions and compromises (however slight), even USB3, even though it likely performs, in and of itself, admirably, its inability to cascade/daisy chain multiple units is, well, a compromise from the standpoint of what UA is trying to do with their platform in having it all modular, in a sense...yes?

I believe UAD are still working on Console 2.0 for Mac FW, so that option not out the window yet.

Keeping going on 2010 Mac pro with UAD

I also would love to see Mac USB 3.0 drivers.

As for UAD products, I own the Apollo Duo Firewire, the Quad expansion PCIE card, and loads of plug ins.

My practice studio keeps the Apollo Duo Firewire, is racked up, wired up, and is not mobile. At home I also do music on my 2010 Mac Pro with the Quad expansion PCIE card.

I would love love love to buy one of the new Apollo Twins for my home studio (with my Quad card) so I could track on the UAD platform still- imagining installing a 3.0 expansion card as the route *if there were UAD drivers* .

Otherwise, I would need to buy a new computer.

I understand that I am the minority. But having Mac 3.0 USB drivers would 1) sell a Apollo Twin, 2) keep me engaged on the platform buying plug ins.

My other choice is buying a Apogee Duet or RME Babyface, which is fine, but I really love UAD products.
