That's right. UA puts those stickers on the 'freebees', to prevent the retailers to sell them separate, or after the promotion.

Concerning the second hand market this sticker does not mean anything, since the device is not different from the 'real deal'.

As a buyer I'd be seriously wary of paying a lot of money for something that had a not for resale sticker on it. Guess I'll have to 'loose' the box. The sticker won't come off without making a mess.

I shouldn't be having to sell it in the first place.

I don't disagree and that is why I think your stronger argument is to take it up with your retailer and negotiate a return of the card and its replacement and upgrade with additional expense to a tbolt card and also take it up with UA , who can put pressure on the distributer/retailer from the inside ?

The problem is whether UA CS is open between Xmas and the new year. Otherwise I'll miss the sale. I know my dealer is closed until the new year. It does look like selling the PCIe card may be my best option. I've found some good deals on a Thunderbolt UAD-2.

Looking on the bright side the card was free and probably meant I just spent a bit more on the 4-710d than my regular dealer's discount. I want to keep that though because it's very good and stands up very well against my Neve, API etc. pres.

Way too paranoid! It is for the retail only, not for 2nd hand sales.
You can get 500-600 euro for it easy. It is new. When you register it you get a coupon for 50 euro too. But that is a choice. When you do not register it has more resale value, because then the buyer gets the 50 euro coupon and can upgrade to a custom bundle. So you can expect 600 for it minimal.

Way too presumptive. I assume you've read the licensing agreement then? If I could find it I'd be able to say whether UAD allow the sale of the card and the 4-710d separately. I don't want a buyer who can't register it. I suspect you don't get sight of the licensing agreement until you register it.

It doesn't work with my system so I can't register it. I've asked CA if I can sell it but no answer yet. I don't suppose UAD want the market flooded with effectively new cards by people hoping to make a bit of money on the side who don't need the card, hence my concern about retail.
