    [solved] No devices found error

My UAD-2 Quad PCIe freebie finally arrived today after a 10 week wait . Just in time to register it and make use of the excellent Xmas sale.

The problem is I can't get it to work. Although the LED on the back is flashing, alternating between red and green, it stays that way once the Mac has started up. In other words, the driver isn't loading? The Quickstart guide and the manual are completely contradictory. One says install the software and then install the card, the manual says install the card and then the software. Neither have worked.

I'm using a qualified Sonnet Thunderbolt expansion chassis. I also have an Avid HDX card in there. I've taken the Avid card out but the UAD still won't work. I've disabled a load of login items including the software required for an Avid S6. Again, no joy. I have also tried the UAD card in different slots.

I can't think of anything else that would block the UAD driver from loading.

The catch is here if I can't get it working, I can't register it and therefore can't make use of the excellent Christmas sale.

Any ideas here? I've looked all over the Internet but haven't found anything. There seem to be plenty of people using HDX and UAD cards. Going nuts here.

Does anyone know if UAD's customer support is working between Christmas and the New Year. Unless anyone else has any bright ideas?

Do you have a nMP (Trashcan), by chance?

If so, Trashcans only support OCTO cards over TB.

I'm getting the no device error with my Apollo 8P as well. When I try to load this certain session in the latest Pro Tools 12 on Mavericks, I get a the blinking HOST light and No Devices found. It happens when it tries to load one of the AUX sends. Luckily, I have backups that seem to work, but I can't figure out the source of the problem. Frustrating to find older sessions not working.

Yes I have a 2013 trashcan. The PCI slots are in a Echo Express III-D (qualified,) which is in Sonnet xMac Server as mentioned in my OP.

Yes I have a Thunderbolt MacBook Pro. I can see if I can get it registered there. However I am not inclined to spend a lot of money on plug-ins on a system that isn't reliable and seems to have a major issue.

Oh, that explains it. Only the Octo PCIe is supported on the nMP "TrashCan". It's a bummer, but it's an apple thing. Your QUAD will work on your MacBook though.

Q: Why are the UAD-2 SOLO, DUO, and QUAD PCIe cards incompatible with the new Mac Pro?

A: The new Mac Pros have expanded the PCIe addressing scheme, so you can have up to 36 PCIe devices in your system (over Thunderbolt, of course). That means that PCIe cards used in that system need to support 36 Base Address Registers in order to be recognized.

The UAD-2 SOLO, DUO and QUAD cards use an earlier generation FPGA that supports 12 addresses, which was the standard implementation until now. The UAD-2 OCTO cards (as well as Apollo/Apollo 16, and both UAD-2 Satellites) are based on a later generation FPGA, which can support 36 addresses with compatible firmware. So it’s really as simple as that. Aside from the new Mac Pros, the SOLO, DUO and QUAD cards are compatible with the rest of the shipping Macs and most PCs.

TOTAL BUMMER. It's no use if I can't use it with the Trashcan. So I'm going to miss out on the sale and have a card that doesn't work. Nice job UAD. No doubt some wise ass will tell me I should have checked the compatibility chart but it's not like its front page news on the UAD site.

Register it with your MBP so you can get to the sale prices. You can always sell the card. It was free. Then put the money received towards an Octo card.

The info has been there all along. On the UA site in their Knowledge base is this:

    Mac-Pro-Compat-1.gif

    Followed by: The Explanation

    Which is:
