    Pure Plate Reverb - Unimpressed

In case you thought the Waves Abbey Road plates had spurred UAD to upgrade their plates, you thought wrong. They're going in the other direction. Just another cheapo knockoff to downgrade UAD's market.

So let me get this straight... UAD developed new technology to make the BX20 one of the best reverb plugins around, like the MK2 of reverb for UAD and now instead of using that technology to improve their dated and outclassed EMT 140 they release a watered down version of their decade old UAD1 plugin for a 50 dollar discount? The UAD-2 instance chart shows exactly the same DSP usage. The Waves and Liquidsonics plates are leaps and bounds better than the UAD plates and UAD's response is to reskin and take a step backwards. WTF guys. Why even bother? Ugh.

I have the Waves, but I honestly haven't used it. I haven't heard of Liquidsonics. The old Plate 140 is still one of my favorite reverbs (like the PCM70s). Not the latest, but a sound I really like. How hard is the Abbey CPU hit?

Yeah the Waves is better quality but I never use it either because the UAD is more tasteful which is way more important. But this is the worst plugin yet in UAD'S decline.

The decline through a few more "anybody can do this" type plugins? I know you've not really been a proponent of the third party releases. I think UA is at the top of their game with most of these, though. Yeah, we have a couple of just drop 'em in type plugins, but I'm okay with that. Sometimes I want a bit more exaggerated tape effect. Oxide is perfect. Not that the Plate 140 is complicated, but sometimes it's nice to drop in a verb and it's already there, so to speak.

The LA-2A has only a handful of sounds and two knobs and I like that beast more than anything. I understand it's more about the principle and reasoning behind the release that sometimes raises an eyebrow, but I'm good with the 90% tweakable lineup.

Decline? They may not be outputting as many proper UAD releases, but the ones they have been releasing have been home runs (BX20, 2500, SSL Channel mkII and now the G-Bus mkII to name a few). I'd rather they take their time and release killer plugins then rush them. If that means a few 3rd party "fillers" while we wait for the next UAD bomb to drop, then I'm cool with that There have been some really good BX and Sonnox plugins release on UAD!

Well, it is a slow decline, and there is still great stuff. I just think the direction is all wrong. One year it's 12 great UAD plugins. The next year it's 6 great UAD plugins and 3 crucial amps sims and 3 great 3rd party plugins. The next year it's a few great UAD plugins and a few great 3rd party and 20 more amp sims and native ports. Next year....?

If you look at the plugin list on my UAD toolbar, with the chronological order showing what you own, it's pretty stark. Up to a certain date, I bought almost everything they made. Then it started to slow and now I barely ever buy anything. And I've only gotten hungrier to!

Anyway, at least the UAD community is still going strong!

UA is on a role IMO. Crazy good stuff coming lately. I'm sure they will get to a new 140 or something similar. Today we got the G Buss. I can't imagine them releasing that AND a new 140 on the same day. It will come though.

Today we got the Pure Plate though. That's the direction.

2500, SSL E and G, that's the direction. The plate is just a one off like Oxide. I wouldn't get all bothered by it.
