I am using an Apollo Twin MKii Duo
Here are some of the specs
ASUS Z270-A motherboard
i7-7700
16 GB RAM
ASUS Thunderbolt EX3 PCIe card

I am getting my new PC running very soon and have an experienced company to help me with the PC build. The technician said that they have tested the TB card to be working. I will have a startech TB3 to TB2 adapter ready. My main concern is that I have read through most of the posts around but haven't got luck on finding ASUS Z270 motherboards with Apollo Twin working while I see some ASUS X99 working with TB3 PCIe cards. And also there are comments about different thunderbolt drivers. Some says they use the ASUS TB driver and some recommended a Windows intel TB driver. I am confused about the installation process and hope that someone here could shed some light on the issue. Thank you.

Hi,

The thunderbolt card should be recognized the the BIOS once it is installed - There may be an Asus disc for the driver as well for the card - I'm not 100% sure. Thunderbolt technology is Intel all the way [they created it as far as I know] so there may be a need to download an Intel thunderbolt driver as well for your windows 10.

I forget the procedure I did for the Z97-AR motherboard with a thunderbolt 2 card but look for all the clues between Asus & Intel. Intel have their own website as well with drivers etc....as far as I know.

I built my own machine and WAS not technically inclined at all - period, now that is changing - It could be best for you to learn about building / maintaining your own machines in time to come.

Very difficult to begin with - a real head bender but when you know whats what it'll get easier. There is a computer tech person I know who built a machine for me really well and it was nice to have someone build a machine for me but it's even nicer to build your own.

Of course whilst you do this music will suffer -

Did you ever get it working? I have an ASUS z-270a build with similar specs running Windows 10. I currently have an Apollo Twin USB which works great, but have heard good things about the mkII. I can't find an answer anywhere online if anyone has successfully gotten the TB MKii interface working on a pci express tb3 adapter with this mobo. Sticking with what I have until I'm sure.
thx

Since nobody replied to this post I had from a couple years ago... I thought I'd share my Windows 10 Thunderbolt experience: I am using an ASUS z270a motherboard. It includes a Thunderbolt 3 header onboard but not TB3 support out of the box without an add-on card. I heard some negative things about ASUS' own EX3 card, so I got brave and decided to go with a Gigabyte Alpine Ridge card. I'm not going to lie, the install was super cringey. I tried one PCI express slot, and it wouldn't post. I moved it to another slot and got into the bios settings. I didn't change anything in these settings except to enable thunderbolt. I made a note in this menu about which PCI slot - only one available on the drop-down menu so I figured "that's the one." My mobo has a cool feature where it will just turn the computer on in the middle of stuff if static trips something. Make sure when the computer is powered down, you also turn it off on the back at the power supply - don't be like me lol. I had to make sure it was in the right PCI slot, and that the TB3 header cable was connected to the motherboard. After that it was easy: Just put the CD with Gigabyte driver in and install it. If you have a previous UAD interface, make sure you uninstall it completely and delete 'appdata' folder. Then, I plugged in my Arrow, and had to "enable" it in the Thunderbolt thing in the system tray. This is one of those confusing things that might get you. After Thunderbolt software is good - you still have to 'enable' in here or it will remain inactive. I'm bumping music from Spotify right now on my Arrow, and I'd imagine Apollo Twin X is the same story if I wanted to spend it up. I can't give you any info on a Twin MKII - I haven't tried that one. DAW use has also been tested and works great!
Also - I have another working Windows 10 Thunderbolt 3 setup in my laptop: It is an HP Zbook g4. It was a much more straightforward affair. I just enabled TB in the bios and in that system tray thing. It came w TB3 functionality built into the mobo so easier than the desktop. This sounds intimidating but just know it's possible. Way easier if your mobo already has TB3, or a laptop with that. Just know ASUS Z270a and Gigabyte Alpine Ridge PCIe add-on card is a winning combo! Peace
