WTF Reason? I mean seriously......with the exception of 9.5 (how many years ago?????? ) you haven't done squat! Come on man, get the lead out........Even Luna is doing better that that!

Ok, now back to your scheduled programming, you are feeling sleepy.....have drink.......drink responsibly.......

LOL... yeah, I think I got some offer to upgrade and went, why? Not even using it anymore, personally.

Yeah, I gave up. I love the Reason Rack, but it's not worth having it installed just for that. In the mean time, Live is kickin' it right now. They have a long cycle too, but 12 is pretty cool.

It's all about new synths in Reason (though the players can be nice)

I agree - I miss the glory days of Reason. It's a fun and creative environment to work in but the glacial pace of DAW development is disappointing. I don't need anything "Reason" enough to bother using the rack plugin. The magic for me was the whole package - but 5-10 years ago. It's very stale now. I still keep it around and occasionally get in there for fun... but not often enough to bother paying for another upgrade I don't think.

I also think I enjoyed it more when it was self-contained. RE's were cool. I don't like the way VST's work in Reason (too weird with the windows). RE's seemed to be better for me the way they show in the rack. You kinda had to force yourself to work in that environment and I got allot done.

Totally agree. I have a large folder filled with cool RE's. Loved that era as well.

WTF Reason?
Ah jeeze. I can rant on the ol' Reas' for awhile if I get started.

My main issue is that it's become a laborious piece of software. Which is the very opposite of the hardware experience it once sought to imitate.

The sequencer window is one of the worst on the market. All the fiddling and wasted screen real estate is a chore.

I haven't upgraded it in nearly a decade. It seems like the upgrades since then are just an occasional new synth or effect bolted on or whatever. enough to get the wallet out from my perspective.

I still like the concept behind Reason, and have thousands of unfinished projects in it, so I'll be using it for decades to come, at the very least to export unfinished stems out of. I also like it as a quick jot-down-an-idea program.

I agree with some of you that they should have stuck to their guns and kept it a closed system.

*****************************************************************************************************************

Funtimes: when I was a child, I would sync Reason to chase an 8-track recorder. Those recordings still sound great. I would trigger bounces within the reason sampler to free up the multitrack for other parts. It was a lot of work doing all that but rewarding.

Bringing this back up because I've gotten a few "hey, spring sales" things and it's like COMON' REASON, let's get this thing up to speed!

LOL, as mentioned, the new version will likely just add mo' synths and not upgrade/update the host.

Don't get me wrong, the Live/Luna ecosystem is fantastic, not like I need it. But sheeesh, comon' Reason, let's light this candle ;)

Yah - I'm going to let my reason+ license lapse - got it last may for 99$ and that's all I'm paying for it again. Hoping they do another spring sale - but if not - I'm not buying. Reason is a fun-to-have status now - definitely not must-have.

Yep, I let it go too. I mean, the RR is fantastic but I have other options that are fantastic too. Bummer in some ways, but had to let it go.

Hey, if any of you end up selling your license, I may be interested. Because I don't have access to whatever old email I originally registered Reason to.

All I have is this USB dongle ("launch key" they call it), and Im nervous about the dongle dying, trapping thousands of projects I have in Reason format.

LOL... do they even still use that red stick from hell? I have one too, in a box, behind a toilet, in a disused lavatory, with sign out front saying 'beware of the leopard...'

I doubt it. My studio comps were always non-internet machines, so I had to use it (plus the guy i bought the license from had the red stick).

I was excited when they went VST so I upgraded to that vsn. Then realized I literally never use it. The end.

Admit that I still use the darn thing over daw+vst instruments. I never liked VST instruments workflow, with all the latency tomfoolery.

13 is coming,,,,,,FINALLY, But I think it might still be behind. We'll see if they added allot of little things. I so wrapped up in Logic I don't really care too much. Might be great for some.

I don't mind if Reason is "behind" (the more they tried to make it everything to everyone, the worse it got, to me), I just want a halfway decent sequencer in it! Lol.

But since they decided to strap a DAW onto Reason way back when, and it's too late to undo it, it'd be nice if they went ahead and made the recording portion more capable. The SSL mixer sounds good, but the archaic editing is hard for me to deal with when I'm used to the lightning speed of Reaper.

New version of LOGIC coming this month will further bury Reason.
