About to move to G5 DP2Ghz with UAD-1, but a bit scared...

Hi all,
as my powerbook G4 666Mhz is on his last legs, I'm about to move tp a G5. I gave a listen to UA's plugins and was very impressed - I will definitely add a UAD-1 to my setup (audio interface is a Motu 828).
I'ld like to get the fastest G5 I can currently afford, ie the DP 2Ghz, with 2 Gb Ram. However I've very worringly found a lot of negative feedback on the UAD-1/ PCIX G5 combos, allthough I couldn't quite work out the extent of the problem. It seems silly to get a slower computer - should I just go ahead with the DP2Ghz, with confidence that compatibily issues will be ironed out in the near future :?:
Many thanks in advance

Just buy a DP1.8 (rev.B!), you won't notice the performance boost of a DP2.0. It's only about 10%. I can run the card's own dsp @ 94% with no side effects. It might be that if you buy a DP2.0 you will need to get 2 UAD1 cards to get about the same uad1-performance which you can achieve with only 1 card in DP1.8 (pci slots). I also have a motu 828 mk2 and it works well with UAD1. 2.0GHz sure looks better, but the performance difference isn't really that big at all. What I know the DP1.8 rev.B is the only G5 which has no problems with UAD1. I'm very happy with this system. I think it couldn't run any better.

Thanks FSD, I'm considering that. Do you know what is the difference between PCI and PCIX slots?

Should make no difference for you with the current crop of PCI cards out there. Of course with UAD1 there is that AMD 8131 issue that you won't have with the D1.8.

UAD site spells the whole G5 issue out, I think the support section should have all the details. And they are working with Apple to improve the issue, which I think it has since the problem was first diagnosed.

Long story short, new Dual1.8 used PCI without the AMD8131 controller chip. That chip seems to cause somewhat of a bottleneck for PCIX G5 users with UAD1, giving us a bit of a performance hit (about 10-20% in my experience) The d1.8 doesn't use the chip so it doesn't experience the problem to my knowledge.

Sounds like it would be best to wait until the next G5 revision, which should be relatively soon. That's what I'm doing.
