Apologies if this subject is listed elsewhere;
So I am a few hours in, after getting these two items. My query is; I can see that the DLX microphone needs to record on two tracks. Further on down the line, do you bounce these to one track, or are they permanently left on two tracks? Also, what is the process for recording a vocal with the modelling on, as opposed to changing the mic type at a later session? Is this possibly done in the 'console - insert effects, or is that just for plug ins?

Thanks in anticipation.

Your choice. You can leave it on the stereo track which allows you continue to tweak the mic settings, or print it and split the track to a mono one.

You can simply put Console in Rec mode and only take one in to the DAW. I used to do this with PT all the time. LUNA however, doesn't allow for it.

So are we saying that the Solo is sufficient for working with the Sphere DLX? Certainly the 2 inputs can handle the stereo mic "pair" of the DLX. But is the processing power enough to run the mic modeling software and say, a preamp and compressor plugin for latency free monitoring while tracking. Does the Solo get the job done with that one processing?

By the way, I'm new here. I've been a Spark subscriber for a year which has been working great for me. I am considering a DLX and Apollo Solo specifically for tracking vocals only. I don't need the processing power for mixing - obviously sticking with Spark and having no problems with plugin counts.

Welcome!

For most situations you'll have enough DSP. At the top of the forum go to Resources and check out my chart of DSP usage by sample rate.

@UniversalAudio

Sorry if this is a super dumb question. I just set up my sphere and Apollo twin x quad. DAW is LUNA. Vocals. Recorded in Monitor mode so I could tweak the settings after the fact. I loaded the Sphere plugin on an insert on a stereo track in Luna. My main question is ultimately are we using the Left channel (front capsule) as the main take and scrapping the Right (rear capsule)? Or is it best to print the combination of the both sides to a mono track and finish mixing the song that way? I understand the purpose of the L and R stereo track for the software to be able to work I am just confused at the over all process. Been searching through YouTube. Anything you could send me? Walkthrough...

LUNA users have it SUPER easy!!!!! Record to a stereo track with the plugin in LUNA's Inserts.

Done.

You get to monitor at low latency while not committing.

Thanks for the quick reply. I’m totally getting and loving that aspect. I guess my question is more for once I am ready to commit after tracking and to start working on my final mix, am I keeping that stereo track with both channels as is and mixing that way? Or am I printing them to mono tracks, keeping the front facing L channel and shit canning the rear right channel? This is of course when I am completely done with the sphere tracks and modulation. I did watch the video and a few others but this portion they go super fast and it’s not super detailed. Yesterday was my first day with LUNA and the mic. Would love a straight forward process to follow. I’ll watch some more videos.
In one video Drew was super stoked about the Stereo Link for panning on his Sphere track said it changed his work flow and that style of recording in monitor to change settings after the fact is exactly what I am envisioning. Why was this small tweak such a game changer? Allows you to pan left to hear that stronger track better?

When you're ready commit the mic model, you can use Mixdown to "print" it, then drag the file back in. Once it's back in, you can convert it to mono and delete one of the channels

When using mixdown to print mono channels is it mixing down and printing a combination of the two recordings from the front and rear capsules or is it only mixing down and printing the louder front channel.

I guess what I can’t seem to wrap my head around is if the rear capsule recording is used in anyway in the final mix or printed mono tracks (your steps above) or is it simply there for sphere plugin to be able to do its thing? Thanks for your help sorry if I am not making sense. Trying my best to describe what I’m not getting. I was blown away by how cool everything was while testing last night.

Once the Sphere processing has been applied by the plugin, it's outputting a dual mono signal.

So you can throw away one of the sides np.

Great!! Don't hesitate to ask any follow up questions you might have.
Any problem with just mixing the stereo track in LUNA as is and not creating the mixdown to print, then converting to mono, and then deleting one track.
Sphere lx mic, Apollo Twin X Quad, LUNA, stereo track, Neve pre on the unison insert, sphere mic plugin on insert. Compressor, EQ etc also on insert. Bussing out to a VOX Bus. Can I just mix the stereo tracks? Without converting to mono? Only drawback is using twice the DSP/CPU? Making some templates now.

You can just keep it stereo all the way through the mix. You might be using more processing, but I doubt you'll notice.

Thank you very much for all the help. I’m 8 years removed from Pro Tools and music production in general decided to sell my old set up and went all in on UA blown away so far. I have a brand new M3 max with 96gb ram so between that and the quad I should be able to handle tracking and mixing beats and vocals just fine. Thanks again.
