AC1 can match which UAD plugin for mixing on the master bus

I was in confusion which plug should i actually use for the master bus for mixing.
was considering AC1
but end of the day, i'm a UAD user. i have every single plug of UAD except the roland bundle.

in a stuck position of choosing a good plug to put on my master bus on mixing.

which of the experts here have an recommendations or any advise for putting which plugin on the master bus would actually aid mixing.

I have 1 x UAD1 card, and intending to get an additional uad 1e when my new pc setup is done in a couple of weeks.

33609, Fairchild, Oxford Dynamics, and Duende are all excellent on the master bus. Do a search for Scott's tip for using Fairchild on the master bus, it's excellent.

Assuming you only mean compression, I agree with the above suggestions. I'm not familiar with the Oxford, and I've used the Waves SSL rather than the Duende, but the 33609, Fairchild, and SSL Bus Comp all have something to offer on the master bus. You just have to determine which offering is actually useful for your material.

33609 is very thick, especially for a plugin. You will have to be more careful with your gain stages going into it on a full mix than with any other software compressor or limiter, period. That could be a good thing, and encourage more meticulous mixing. It definitely imparts a meaty and slightly dark sound, but depending on what you do that may be perfect.

Fairchild is faster and brighter - MUCH brighter if you go by that \"Fairchild on the master bus\" tip thread. It's an excellent tip and often sounds great, but the Fairchild can also be more transparent with different settings. Between the DC adjust, M/S processing, and the variety of sounds you can squeeze out of it, the Fairchild is a great-sounding and versatile bus compressor.

The SSL G Comp can be an easy, \"set it and forget it\" plugin. Typical settings are 10ms attack, auto release, 4:1 ratio, and keep the needle under 4dB reduction while mixing into it. Some use 2:1, but I've found that changes the sound in more ways than a simple ratio change would, and actually tends to compress more with all other settings being equal.

Keep in mind, you don't NEED to compress the master bus every single time. To answer your question literally, a good plug to put on the master bus could be the Pultec or Neve equalizers. The Neve 1073 and Pultecs are both great in different ways for boosting highs, and both affect the signal just by being on, even if the settings are flat.

Or why just one plugin? Fairchild followed by Pultec is a wonderful master bus combo.

thanks for the suggestions
well actually am looking for some plugs to enhance the mix
watched a pro tools video that teaches us to mix with what we want at the end.
and start workking with the master bus first and then mix the eq / compression of individual tracks to we would want it to sound.
more often than not that can be pretty confusing.
i'm still a beginner in mixing.

but there again it sounds logical to me.
after a compression on the master bus.
what ever you mix on individual tracks should sound very close to the end product.

try parrallel processing (copying mastertrack several time on diffrent track):

one track with fairchild,

another with 33609,

a third with nothing,

sum and mix the 3 tracks,

explore this way, latency compensation on digital daw allow you to explore other way of parallel mastering process (try filter on some track to accentuate some processing),

sound could Become huge with this trick

i can't do any mastering session without parralel process now

I just route the audio track to a seperate compressor track. It's much the same at the end of the day. But each to their own.

I only suggest to use as \"dual mono\" instead of stereo-liniked setting for the compressor on masterbus. This give more wide, open and deep sound.

Fairchild with \"Ocean Way\" preset, for start, followed by 88RS with +2dB @60hz shelf, is very good.

If your mix it's right and don't have any problem, with dual mono you'll improve the sound very much... As write Bob Katz

Any unlinked or asymmetrical processing of a stereo source will result in image instability in one form or another. However, whether this is audible or objectionable depends on how much and what kind of processing is applied.

Unlinked compression tends to result in very obvious dynamic image shifts. The ear is quite adept at spotting such things.

Unlinked EQ doesn't produce dynamic image shifts, but image position varies with frequency instead. With moderately heavy EQ it is quite easy to create the situation where an instrument appears to wander around the image when playing different notes.

Again, if used gently and applied critically, the sides effects can be minimal and outweighed by the benefits, but I would always suggest caution and critical listening when applying unlinked processes to stereo tracks.

I am the type to be safe rather than sorry. The only time I use "unlinked" compression/limiting is with Elephant2 by Voxengo since you can control the % of linkage.

I think that it depends by the matherial. I have try with SSL G-Bus compressor on mixbus and the image, on my music, was little and punchy. With Fairlchild, and the same settings, the image was open BUT with Fairchild unlinked the image was wider and deeper without any instability or problems.
All depend by the matherial...
