Adding Additional Inputs - Apollo 8 - Additional AD2800

Hi,

I currently have a beringer AD2800 linkned via adat into my Apollo 8 and eveything is working as should, i require an additional stereo input and was wondering can i add another AD2800,

I read that i could add in a phono to Toslink (Optical - Link Below) to give me an additional stereo input - is this the case ? if so would this effect the sound of the input synth ?

My other option is link two apollo 8's together, but was wondering would this make the Beringehr AD2800 incompatible ? defeating the object.

Thanks D!

Hi there. I do not believe it's possible for the AD8200 to output S/PDIF, just ADAT, so the converter will not work.
You could get a two channel AD converter, but I like your idea of a second Apollo much more. You'll get a nice quality upgrade vs the Behringer for 8 of your channels and at that point you could use your Behringer via ADAT for just the other two channels you need.

Hi Matt,

thanks for your reply, I wasn’t sure that I could add back in the AD2800 once I’ve daisy changed two Apollos together, I read in a forum that the Adat comes obsolete once they are chained together..any thoughts on that ?

thanks!

All "linking" is done over Thunderbolt. ADAT I/O of both units will be available.

If you have the original Apollo (not 8, which is the black face), and you're using Firewire, then one of your Apollos will still have ADAT inputs, but the other will not.

So if I have two Apollo 8 (black) I’ll be still able to use the AD2800 over Adat from one of the units,

thanks joe!
Both units can still utilize ADAT - 32 inputs (plus S/PDIF).

Hi Matt,

I recently purchased an Apollo 8 Duo which i have conected via Thurnderbolt to the Apollo 8 Quad, im running on all the latest UAD firware & console, ive managed to connect everyting up but i'm not getting any sound from the addional Apollo Duo through the Apollo 8 quad, ive attached some images.

This maybe a silly question but do i need to link the two units with audio leads ?

Thanks Derek.

I'm not Matt, but no, you don't need to connect them with audio cables.
Can you show your Thunderbolt chain? What is connected to what?
Both Apollo devices should be daisy-chained to the same TB port on the computer.
