Am I the last to know that UAD doesn't like low latencies?

hi,
I have this problem which for whatever reason I only noticed it recently.
That if I use uad plug-in's, my native cpu usage shoots up in Nuendo 3.2.
Sometimes by as much as 30% or more.... I called UAD and they said that they do not recommend using their plug ins for tracking only mix downs at high sample size buffers.....and that behaviour was normal.
did everyone else know this? I then definitely wish that they would make their software native with dongles.....
I need low latency as I use a lot of vsti's and usualyl am adding parts up to the last minute.....

i dont think thats quite the whole story, try searching the forums for latency specs, in fact i think dan duskin did a poll or survey on that subject recently.

i run 2 pcs with one dedicated to being a front end effects rack for monitoring effects while recording (and not recording the effects).

its got one uad-1 and thats maxed with plugins, and i run it at 64 samples asio buffer.

the other pc runs at 512 samples and has 2 uad-1's.

thanks will check that, cause it is 64 that I like to run my DAW at.

I have 4 - UAD-1's in a Magma that behave pretty well @ 32 sample buffer settings - no big increase in host CPU etc.. It did seem to help things when I moved the cards around in the 13 slot Magma until all 4 UAD-1's were on the same IRQ.

I am using a 975 chipset though - I believe you are using the P35 that appears to not get along well with UAD-1's.

Ultimately, in the long run the only real solution is for UA to go native IMHO. These problems with hardware are more than annoying while native CPU power is getting to the point were there is little need for external DSP.

it may be the chipset indeed. I only changed that on Monday and to be honest only noticed it then.

32buffer is .75ms at 44.1Khz. What sound card are you using?

RME can do that, of course it wouldn't be good with those like 33609 or PMB ...
