Great forum guys. I'm about to buy a new G5 and I was wondering if UA has a fix for the AMD problem in the works (future driver etc.). I really need the dual 2.7 which I know has the problem. What do you guys think? Thanks a lot.

There are a lot of threads about this already and info at the UA website as well.

If you need the extra power then go for it and get the 2.7. There are lots of reasons to get it, regardless of the limitations it may put on UAD use. I think that its a serious problem but not as bad as its made out to be. In most cases you'll still get good use out of the UAD-1 available DSP. If you really need all of the UAD-1's DSP power, then just get a Dual 2.0 Ghz and i'm sure you'll be happy with it. I have the Dual 1.8 w/AMD and its not fun knowing i'm losing some DSP power, but its not so bad. I'll stay with this machine til the Intel Macs get ready for primetime.

A 100% fix for the AMD-8131 situation would most likely be a hardware change, which at this time we are still investigating. We are working on what we can do with software, but this would not be a *complete* fix.

If you have 2+ cards and have been using them a lot in a G4, you'll probably want to go for the new Dual 2.0 as it does not have this bandwidth limitation. Basically if you have been routinely using 20-30+ UAD plugins in sessions, do not go for the 2.3/2.7 models. Otherwise, as Trace said, the AMD-8131 situation is not *that* bad, especially if you are not using a large number of UAD plugins.
