Well, I do... But it was just today when I loaded my projects transferred from my G4 for the first time. So far, everything worked fine. The card is recognised by the system, can be configured and authorised, and my projects still sound the same - including a ridiculous problem I experienced with one of them: The ending of the song consists of just one fading sweep sound from a synth hooked to my Fireface 800. There were one to three heavy drop out noises at this point on the G4, and the very same noises appear on the Mac Pro again! The UAD is at about 75% CPU. The noises disappear as soon as I freeze the track that uses Nigel.

These are only first impressions, I didn't work very intensively on the mixes yet. But this stupid problem really annoys me. I really thought it was a problem with the narrow bus of my G4 (133 MHz). But on the Mac Pro, it's just the very same: high CPU loads on the UAD cause audio to drop out. At least with Nigel... :-(

Can you put your Mac Pro to sleep? (deep sleep, not just monitors) I heard this isn't possible on the Quad G5s.

Actually, I don't know... I use Macs for three years now (and quite intensively, wrote books on Logic etc.), but I never even touched this sleep business... I don't know how it works, what it really does, how I turn it on or off and what problems might occur... to me, it always seemed a bit odd for DAWs to go to sleep. My Mac usually runs at daytime, and I usually return after no more than an hour to go on working.

Or am I just another energy wasting environment-pig without knowing it?

Christian

I manually put my computers to sleep at night and during the day when I won't be at them for a couple hours or more. This not only saves energy (a fully loaded tower can consumer hundreds of watts... ~ 700+ when working) but presents a quieter work environment for writing and other duties.

I rarely shut down. Booting up is sooo 90's! :D

Anyway, just wondering if the UAD-1 will allow computer deep sleep again.
