Apollo 8: 7.1 for Audio post production

Hi there,

Is there a way to set up Apollo 8 as an audio interface running 7.1 surround sound for audio post (Pro Tools) as well as using the big volume knob as a global output level to act as surround monitor control? The only option I see is the virtual ch without global control.

There is not. Only X series offer surround sound support.

Thanks Drew. I have used this card in the past with a 5.1 set up through virtual channels. Is this no longer the case? If so, surely it's not a hardware limitation but a simple software update that could fix it.

Whatever workarounds you have used in the past should still work. I am talking about supported configurations. Only X series rack Apollos have this.

Thanks Drew, let me ask the question differently than. How would one activate 8 virtual tracks on the Apollo 8? I'm unable to change them on my end.

VCs are used for DSP Pairing, so you'd need to set the slider in the Hardware Settings to maximize virtuals.

Drew, that seems to have done the trick with the virtual tracks. I have another question, is there a way to assign the big monitor control to all 8 analogue outputs, I'm guessing not at the moment but I thought I should ask?

There is not officially. This is precisely what I mean when I say that X series rack Apollos have surround support. This is what they do as well as having the ability to solo/mute/trim all outs.

There is an unofficial user created method though.

The blackface units can't do it "properly". Meaning the Mon L/R outs have different timings than the X series.

This user "solution" ignores that (they likely have no idea this even exists)
