It's been almost 2 years since my last post about this. It seems pretty straightorward to have Alt speakers when using Surround 5.1. If we're using x8p with L R and 1-4 as the surround, why can't we mirror the stereo L R signal to Lines 5-6 to Alt Speakers in the Console, and 7-8 to Alt 2 speakers? Using Cue outputs with Digital Mirror 5-6 or 7-8 has issues or using the HP outs to a Switch Witch is crude and creates gain staging issues with no precise knob volume control with Alt stereo speaker sets.
All doable in the analog domain, but why when it can be setup with software and a press of a button? I've setup a StreamDeck to control Console. And I use an x8p with an x4. It would be so easy for UA to let us decide which outputs we want as Alt speakers when working in Surround. The Alt 1 (5-6) and Alt 2 (7-8) could simply be the Stereo L R digital mirror from the L R channels in the L R 1-4 IO Matrix (see picture below). And the volume knob on my X4 would be able to control that ALT / FCN volume level.
Please, can you update the Apollo Console for post production? I want to get rid of my Dangerous ST/SR monitor controller. It's literally the only reason I still have it around-- to have 2 Alt speakers sets when my Main is running 5.1 surround. I use my Genelec GLM system to solo and create groups in surround but in order to have Alt stereo speakers I need to have dedicated, selectable mirrored Line Outputs that can be switched on/off with the FCN and ALT keys and controlled with my X4 volume knob. My beloved UA Talkback is already integrated. The Dangerous ST/SR talkback even with a high quality ext mic...well.. has seen better days. This change will create a simple setup without any need for external monitor control.
