Hi,
I have an uad2 audio apollo duo which worked on my Mac pro 2012 firewire port connected.
I upgraded my Mac to Ventura os 13 with opencore legacy patcher.
There is a thunderbolt 4/USB card onto thé Mac.
But in info system of the Mac, in menu thunderbolt there IS nothing, no gestionnaire loaded...
Is there any solution to play Apollo with this configuration ?

Regards.

FireWire support from Apple ended with macOS Big Sur. You’ll need to run Catalina or earlier with a computer without a

Thunderbolt port.

If you get a newer computer, you can add a Thunderbolt option card to the original silver Apollo rackmount.

The Mac Pro cheese grater ‘hacks’ to install Thunderbolt are not supported by UA and known to have major issues. A newer Mac is the best route.

Hi, Jean Luc,

On the cMP you're best off sticking with Mojave and freezing the system, or going to Catalina. Ventura is too new for reliable operation—especially on a 12+ year old system.

As stated above, firewire does not work after Catalina.

Thank you for your response which gives me hope. I thought that with Monterey I would not have a problem since the firewire ports are recognized by Apple from Ventura. why did you have difficulty?
concretely can you explain to me how ua connect will allow me to use apollo? Is additional hardware required? Are there any things to buy?

no, you cant use your apollo, but you can use ua connect on ventura and use the native versions of what ever you already have if they are available.

I installed a driver for firewire port and it work fine with ventura now. Ventura recognize for example an hard drive firewire. Is the UAD version compatible with Catalina (the last version firewire) work on Ventura ?

I am very happy to tell you that it is possible to upgrade an old Mac pro 2012 to Ventura and use apollo duo on firewire port with Logic pro. Now, all seems to work. Apollo card audio is recognized. Thanks for your messages and don't worry to ask me help if you have an old Mac and not enough money to buy a recent Mac.

Now the UAD sound card work, I seem to have resolved the problem, we'll see over time if it's good.
So I summarize for those like me who cannot invest in a more recent Mac but want to use their equipment like Apollo and Logic Pro in recent versions.
You have an extraordinary job done by open source developers to update an old Mac with a recent OS. You will find lots of tutorials for this. This is open Core patcher Legacy. Huge. I upgraded my 3 old Macs from 2009 or 2010, 2012 and an MBP to Ventura.
Second step: update the printer drivers, you have to experiment, look for more recent drivers and try. My brothers print from 2015 are recognized.
As for more specific hardware like the Apollo duo sound card, the problem was that the Mac Pro 2012 does not have a thunderbolt port but firewire ports. Rather than buying a thunderbolt PCI card to put in the Mac pro, I looked for a driver that would work under Ventura to recognize and manage the firewire ports. It is AppleFWAudioVentura.pkg (see belove). You must follow the procedure found on the internet to deactivate the Mac's SIP. Remember to reactivate it afterwards.
But if the Apollo sound card was now recognized by the Mac, it was still not recognized by UAD. I then installed the latest UAD Apollo plug-in managing the firewire ports, it is the Catalina compatible one. AND there miraculously everything works, the UAD Catalana plug-in is Ventura compatible and manages the sound card.
Hoping that this will help some who don't necessarily have the means to invest in Mac new when they already have very, very good Macs which can continue to be.

Been trying to make it work with this help on a Satellite Firewire, but I always get the message "Driver not installed correctly"
I wonder if anyone made a Satellite Firewire work on anything above Catalina... I can't... :(
