ASP8 Cone Pushed in - Problem or Not?

Cremoni

One of my Event ASP8's showed up with its high-frequency driver cone pushed in. Not major. So I cracked it up and it popped back out. Is this a problem? Should I return it? I certainly don't hear any difference between the 2 monitors.

In theory, its a bad thing... the reality is you'll probably not notice the difference. Even though the tweeter seems \"soft\", it is manufactured to maintain a specific, very rigid shape. Once pushed in, you've compromised it's structure, and it may not resonate evenly across the surface. There's really nothing you can do to get it back to 100% short of replacing it.

That said I've used speakers after similar mishaps and never heard a difference either. In a controlled lab test, it would probably show more distortion on the scope... But our ears just aren't that sensitive, so if you don't hear a difference you're probably ok. The other side of the equation being, you paid full pop for it brand new, and you should get a perfect model... Maybe they'd knock a couple of bucks off for you, or offer to ship a replacement tweeter?

There is no reason to spend good money on something that is defective.

Either return the speaker or do as T-Dogg suggests and get a replacement tweeter. They are usually very simple to replace.

Agreed. There's no real necessity to get it replaced but you may just as well if it's not a hassle. That said, an unnamed manufacturer (don't want to get sued here ;)) once told me \"get some duct tape to pull it out, we do it all the time!\"
