Astra Doubling Capabilities

Hey Experts -

How well does the Astra work in Mono? My main main interest in the Astra is for the doubling.

Long time fan of UAFX and satisfied owner of a few of their items (uafx max, UA volt2 audio interface). Was hoping that the uafx Astra might work for me.

The idea I have in my head is that at least 80% of the time I would be using the astra in mono. I have multiple amps and it is a pain to hook 2x up at the same time for quick demos and practice. I just want to be able to plugin, jam and get a reasonably good double effect.

I had been searching and came up with Strymon Deco, Keeley 30ms ADT and TC Electronic Mimiq. Mr Black used to make a double tracker but those dont appear to be available anymore (limited run). My research came up with mixed reviews on the Mimiq and I worry the execution in the Keeley wont hit what I am looking for (chrous-like, useful for Beatles only tunes).l I don't need more reverbs, flangers, choruses etc - I am just looking for the best double tracking for classic rock etc.

Thanks and appreciate the responses.

The astra works great in mono and really has all the modulations you need for classic rock and its simple and intuitive controls make it easy to dial on the fly. I normally run mine with the MXR in doubler mode as my preset and then my live is a chorus or phase or whatever the song calls for then I can always have the doubler available for when I want to fatten up a solo or part.

The Eventide Micropitch might work well for you if you look for a fattener and in stereo a widener. It’s different from the Astra widener, but IMO doesn’t wear out as fast, meaning it’s less obtrusive to the overall sound.
On top you can do a great delay with it too.
OR Eventide Tricera Chorus for if you want the spread but also want more modulation capabilities.
