ASUS A8V Deluxe/X2: The PCI Slot Position Doesn't Matter!

Asus A8V-E Deluxe does not support X2 processors. :-(

So I am gonna buy the Asus A8V-E SE which supports X2.

Are any of you with an A8V Deluxe using the onboard LAN simultaneously with your UAD-1(s)?

The reason I ask this is that the onboard Gigabit Lan shares an IRQ with PCI slot 2.

I will soon be putting together a system with this motherboard and it will have 1xLynx Two, 2xUAD-1, and a Waves APA44-M. The latter requires a Gigabit Lan port.

If it weren't for this requirement, I could give each PCI card its own IRQ in slots 2, 3, and 4 since I will not use the RAID, SATA, nor 1394.

If one PCI card must share an IRQ with the Gigabit Lan, any suggestions as to which one?

I suppose I could buy a network card and stick it in slot 1 or 5 (shared with AGP).

Any thoughts appreciated!

Well, I'm in the process of building my A8V Deluxe system.

I tried to update the BIOS using ASUS Update and ended up with a \"dead\" BIOS chip. A search at ASUS's forum (search on \"ASUS Update\" and look for posts about A8V Deluxe) and a general Google search (\"A8V ASUS Update\") revealed that I am not alone. Some seemed to be able to recover their BIOS though the Crash Free BIOS feature, others, like me were not so lucky.

I called ASUS tech support and ASUS was very responsive in sending me a new chip with the latest BIOS already flashed (I only paid $5 shipping).

So, a word of warning:

Use ASUS Update with A8V Deluxe at your own risk!

I've successfully used AUSS Update before with other boards, but with the A8V Deluxe, I suggest updating the BIOS the old fashioned way during POST with a floppy.

Sorry if it is inappropriate to have posted this here in a thread about PCI slots. I figure A8V Deluxe owners are probably reading this thread, so it seemed a good place to put a heads up.

I have also posted this at Cubase.net.

Hi guys......I just installed a X2 4800 on my Asus A8v Deluxe but I had to change the bios...The bios I am running is 1017 not 1012...The board recognized it instantly...When I booted into windows I got a message...New processor installed...Windows will now install the necessary files for your new hardware..and boom...It was done...No prob...This thing is so quick it's scary
I upgraded from a 64 3200 which I paid the same price as this 2 years ago...

I love this stuff.....1 year ago the X2 4800 was over 1000 bucks...I got mine from Tiger Direct for 299
