AU FAIRCHILD

Hi,
why there are two versions of the fairchild in my AU folder?
The one is
\"UAD Fairchild Mono component\" and the other \"UAD Fairchild component\"
In the DP 4.6 menu I can see two 670s.
the one is in link mode, while the other is in unlink mode.
What I can see is that you can't put the unlink version in link mode!
Is there a reason for this?

Thank you

Yiannis

I guess the one you're referring to as the 'Unlink mode' is the mono version, in which only the left channel of the 670 is functioning (only one track to process), so there's no point in linking the 2.

Maby but there is still a \"mono to stereo\" version of the unlinked mode :?:

There was a Farichild Mono that was made a while back for VST under OS 9 for Logic, where Logic needed specific mono plugins for mono tracks. With AU in doesn't, but we had to keep that one for support for older sessions where someone may have used it. I would be good to hear everyone's feedback if they use Fairchild Mono under AU...

Thanks everyone.

James, I'm on WinXP/Nuendo 3; when installing the UAD software, I never install the mono versions that are supplied for Logic users. However, there is always a 'Fairchild Mono' plug, which I remember having read that I should use when I want to insert Fairchild on a mono track. Ain't that still true? Or should I use the normal stereo version?...

Ah, well that's actually another reason. The Fairchild Mono has half the number of parameters than the regular Fairchild. So the benefit here would be if you had a mono track and were using some sort of control surface like Mackie control. So you don't have to look at as many parameters on the control surface. You obviously don't *need* to do this, but it's something worth considering.

I always use mono versions in Nuendo PC and Logic .
Mono versions and stereo versions cant not share user
presets

so I should use stereo versions on both machines ?

Well there's two \"mono\" types of plugins. Actual \"mono-only\" or regular VST/AU plugins that operate in \"mono mode\". All of our AU plugins are the latter, they are stereo, but have a \"mono mode\" so they can run as mono when on mono tracks. In VST it's the same way, but you can also have the \"mono-only\" type of plugin, which operates always in mono. Fairchild Mono is one of these plugins (they are almost always designated as Mono or (m) in some way). It's really up to you which ones you want to use.

Is there any benefit, in terms of CPU usage, to using the \"Mono Fairchild\" on a mono track insert as opposed to just using a mono instance of the regular Fairchild?
