How are you attempting to load the presets, where are your presets located.

I just launched Logic ( I dont use UAD in logic so I had to test it myself) and was easily able to pull up the UA AU presets that I downloaded....

Give me some detail and I can help you with ease.

the presets are placed: mac hd/library/application support/universal audio/presets

to load a preset into say the cambridge eq, i hit load vst preset and if there
is a preset that i saved it will load it. but the presets i downloaded won't open.
thanks for your help.

In logic there is no need to do that. In your plugin window (upper left hand corner) you will see a down arrow, click it and there are your presets.....

At least that is how it works for me.

When I click that icon, a pop up window shows and an option \"local domain\" is where I find my presets

when i do that, the presets that came with the plugs come up, but the ones
just downloaded don't show up.
are you seeing both the old and new presets?

Put them in your logic preset folder. user/library/application support/logic/plugin presets.
loading them from the logic plugin loading menu, NOT the VST loader at the bottom of the plug.

If you already have custom presets in the folders you will have to open up the individual folders. If not just drop the folders in the plugin folder and over write the old ones.

The new plate140 presets are nice.

I keep all plugin presets in my logic plugin folder, it makes it way esiaer to back and move around presets when you need to.
