Bad sound using line input

Hello,
Hello,
I just got my first preamp, the neve 1073spx, and I already love it.
But I have a problem with it.
I connect my microphone to my neve with a normal XLR cable.
then i had also used a normal xlr cable to connect the neve to the mic in of my apollo x6 at first.
But since everyone says you should connect a preamp to the interface via xlr to trs, I bought one.
However, when I connect this to the line in 1 or 2 of my apollo, the recording sounds completely different than via xlr. It is about 12db quieter and has almost no highs.
What could be the reason for this? Are my line inputs broken?

Thanks and best regards
Lukas

I can't listen to the examples currently but i believe the Mic input on the x6 has a built--in Apollo pre on it which will add 10db of gain. Maybe the highs you're hearing are distortion and you might try cranking the input on your Neve and backing off the output into the Line In.

That said, if you LIKE what you hear, do it that way.

I have an x6 and 1073SPX, sounds great connected to a line input!

What kind of XLR-Tele cable did you get? A balanced one would be the best.
Are you connecting it to the line inputs on the back of the x6 and not to the hiZ ones on the front?
I would suggest connect it to Line 3. As 1-2 are shared with Mic 1-2, so if you want to connect extra mics into the x6 you wouldn't be able to use them at the same time.
Adjust output of 1073spx as needed.
Take a look in Console and make sure there's no plug-in active on the input you're using.
