About 6 months or so ago, I called Magma and asked them if the 7 slot chassis I was about to buy would work with the new PCIe to PCI card they were making. They told me \"absolutely\". So, I picked up the chassis for my G5. Been working just fine. THEN my G5 is in the repair shop for SEVEN WEEKS!!! Turns out it can't be fixed, so Apple decides to give me a new 2.66 Intel. I call Magma again and ask about the PCIe to PCI card working with this chassis. they say YES!!!!! Again. Ok, so I wait a week for them to build me a card and new cable. Install it on the Intel... CRASH CRASH CRASH. Going out of my mind, I call Magma and the tech guy tells me it should work fine. Then I mention to him it DOES work fine, as long as I'm only using ONE CARD at a time. He says \"Oh... Hold on, I think I know what that is...\" He gets back on the phone with me and tells me \"I need you to pull the backplane out and read to me what chip it has\". SO I do this and tell him that it has the IBM chip. He says that's what's wrong. \"You need the Pericom chip with the Intel macs.\" I was floored. I asked him, \"Is this something new that you guys just found out about?\" He says \"No, we've known about this for a while\". I mentioned that Magma MIGHT want to post this issue for all those to read.....
(sigh)
So, Magma sales says they can't warrantee the board because it's 3 years old. BUT they can sell me a new one at around 550 bucks!!! I said no thanks. AT that point I'd be out 950 clams and would have an un-sellable legacy system (no chassis). Going the SBS route and selling the Magma.
Just thought you guys should know.....
