Boss IR-2 - Direct Recording and Headphones Out

The UAFx pedals are still tops when it comes to sound, but Boss just released the IR-2 and they’ve really listened to players.

It has USB-C for not only loading up IRs, but you can record directly into your DAW from it.

The pedal also has 3.5mm headphones out.

I love my Lion, and I can deal with no headphone out, but I really wish the USB-C port gave me direct recording!

And it has a stereo fx loop, which is super useful for headphone playing and direct recording. Also tempted to buy, just because the feature set rocks so much plus it has a true WYSIWG UI (of course there is some hidden stuff like deactivating the IR part etc.). Super impressed by this little box considering its price tag.

Features are impressive for that size and price. I think it’s great for beginners. For me it can have all the features one might dream up. There is one feature that counts: if it makes you wanna play and play and keep playing.

I predict the Boss will either bore you or you will just keep fiddling with settings and IRs and discuss it all in forums. While Lion players might have performed at many gigs and enjoyed the hell out of it.

Haha, like your Lion support 🤘 Need to get my hands on it some day. Sounded great in your YT video btw. Most other videos it seems to lack presence and top-end to me. E.g. in the Andertons video the sv20h + OX combination sounded significantly better than the Lion to my ears (also significantly higher price tag).

Yes, agreed. tbf, Pete Thorn or Michael Nielsen would probably get them closer, they're a lot more experienced with direct recording than the Anderton's guys.

Do you know which attenuator Anderton used in their demo? Or did they use the OX Box and not the OX Stomp?

Hi, I think they were using the Ox Box. I’m dreaming of buying the SV20h instead of the Lion 68 cause I already own a suhr reactive load and the ox stomp. But maybe shop the ir-2 first 🤪 Just for the convenience and price of it. Although I don‘t really need any of these

I posted about this too in the general forum. When I saw the Anderton's video pop up, I had pretty low expectations for the sound quality, and then Danish Pete started playing and I was honestly really surprised at how it sounded. I might be pick one of these up! The feature set for $200 is astonishing.

Lately, my favorite toy has been the Friedman IR-X - connected to the Apollo with some Capitol Chambers or AKG spring reverb from UAD. Sounds and feels marvelous.
