I've demoed the 1073 and it sounds awesome! A/B'ed with a 8channel hardware version and very very comparable and useable... definitely want to buy it. I also know that UA will add discount if we buy a Neve \"pack\" (with the other plugs to come) but not forgetting those who bought early and so not worried about that anyway. BUT:

Problem 1: I have 4uad cards and use them pretty much to the max for most projects.. especially when working at 96khz. The neve's will limit my use even further as I also love the other plugs.

Problem 2: I have not had any discounts for having further cards (I have bought 6 in total) which pees me off a little (for my early loyalty) and buying a PCI-E also means I have to upgrade the computer straight away.

Problem 3: Uad-2 seems the one to wait for and so no point in buying the neve right now.

How many of you are in the same boat? Is the neve a must-have, RIGHT NOW? I really don't see the point in the neve without the extra power needed. It seems that the problem UA has is that it has released great plugs without the hardware power to support it. Ok some of you can do with less but I know there are lot of you who have 4 cards and running out.

I was half expecting UA to release the Neve with a new hardware to support them but I guess timing isn't one of UA's strengths!

I guess it always matters how much money is burning a hole in your pocket. I'm of the same opinion, I'll wait... simply because I have a lot and don't really need, just want. However i wil one day get a new computer and all my cards will not work anymore plus the UAD1 will be to weak in for my \"future\" setup I have in mind. I don't have the money to blow 2 times in the next couple of years so I will definitely wait for either a UAD 2 or just a big fat new computer, or both, but I can't see myself buying the old technology when a UAD 2 \"might\" be in the works. I've heard no official statement towards this but I'm not taking any chances.

We'll see....

I think I am going to get a Flexi pack soon. Currently I am working on a project and unfortunately I've made the mistake of enabling the 1073 demo and using it in the project.

i understand your point ... i just ordered my third card so i probably use the 100$ voucher on the neve.
Also i´m in the middle of mixing an album - i feel i have to use the best i can now - not wait for a future release that might or might not come.

Buying computer soft and hardware is like burning money anyway - live now.

I'm confused - if possible please clarify the following points:

1. Is there definitely going to be a UAD-2 card and if so when or is this just wishful thinking?

2. Is there definitly going to be a \"Neve pack\" and if so when?

3. Is there going to be any exchange programme to swap or credit old PCI cards already purchased for the new PCI-e cards or are we expected simply to bin them and buy the new ones?

is there intelligent live in the universe? we don´t know ;)

no seriously - only UA knows if and when - all we can do is guess.

If you don´t need it now - wait - if you need it now - buy.
only the present is real - the future is not.

@SquadronLeader:

Regarding PCI-PCIexpress read the press release on ua-website.

Regarding a possible neve-pack, hmm. They rleased the roland pack when the third and final plugin (re-201) came out, same with the mastering bundle. So, you could guess, that it could be the same with a neve bundle.

Regarding an Uad-2. Maybe, maybe not...

But as we read and see now, you can take your plugins with you, so it shouldn't really mater if you buy now or later as long as you don't plan to get the neve plugs from a voucher. But then you'll have to pay for the following plugs, so, it doesn't matter, again. But then again, who knows...

Why will it make a difference if you got your plugins by a voucher or a mixture of payments and vouchers as I suspect most people will have done?

I'm pretty sure they will have a neve bundle...

I'm sure that UA will have to release a newer and much more powerful card. I'm kinda guessing it might around the time SSL release their PC drivers for duende for some direct competition!

Aside from all my guessing I just hope they hurry up with a more powerful solution.

Based on precedent, there should be a neve Pack, but nobody knows for certain.

Also based on the precedent set with the UAD-1e, it appears hopeful that, when a UAD-2 or whatever is finally released, we will be able to migrate our plugin authorizations from out UAd-1s to the new unit. Again, I am speculating and nobody knows for sure.

Based on the above assumptions/speculations, one can buy a Flexi Pak for $600 and, between the $500 voucher and the $100 UAD 100 promotion this summer, essentially get the card itself for free. So, hopefully, your $600 investment is in the plugins themselves (not the hardware) and you will be able to carry them to the new hardware platform if/when it arrives.

In the meantime, if you already have 4 UAD-1s, you could sell one or two sans paid plugins, and again, keep the plugins you bought with the vouchers.

This is purely based on speculation which in turn is based on precedent. No guarantees about the future. Take this advice at your own risk, but it is something to consider.

You can run lots of 1073SE's and thats a very good plugin in its own right, worth the price on its own.

I am about to buy a Flexi pack. However, this purchase will be my 3rd UAD-1 and I am worried if it would work without problem in my setup. Neo2 Platinum board. Also I am worried that if all three cards will work in \"future\" setup which will probably be a PCIe based system. Any idea?

BTW, Magma isn't an option. Let me know if you are running 3+ UAD1s in your system without magma. Thanks.

I'm in the same boat too. I found the URS N to be better on some tracks and the UAD 1073 to be magic on others (better thatn URS N).

IF it were a new good compression I'd buy it sight unseen........

I know I'll buy it, but maybe when the nick some of the edge off the price tag.......... or maybe before...

If I buy a new flexi-pak and spend the $500 voucher can I immediately sell the card associated with that voucher but not the plugins that I then bought using the voucher?

Similarly if I bought the flexi pak could I keep the voucher and sell the card but use the voucher later when they bring out other plugins that I would like?

Many thanks

I've wondered that too? Also, can you transfer the license for the stand-alone plugs like the Neve without transfering a card?

http://www.uaudio.com/support/software/UAD-1/FAQ.html

See the question, "I have several UAD-1 cards and plug-in licenses, and want to sell one of the cards. Can I sell the card with my plug-in licenses?"

Specifically, the part about "all or none".

It doesn't exactly answer your question, but it suggests an answer.

Why not call or email UA and confirm? Their suport team is very helpful.

I know you can run alot of SE version of the 1073 but I am running out of power as it is and running even an SE version limits my use of other plugs from UA...

Also I have a worry. Right now UA allows one purchase to run on 4 cards. If the next UAD card is more powerful than 4 cards, will we be paying a higher rate to run on that card? Somehow I feel I will waste money buying the neve for the cards I have already...

No... I will definitely be waiting until the next generation of cards are released before I buy anything further...
