Can't Enable (2) UAD cards in new PC

I have a quad core 2.66 ghz PC with a PCI and PCI-e cards installed. The system sees both of them, but when I try to use UAD in Nuendo 3, or even click on the UAD meter, the system crashes. If I disable either one of them, the other card works by itself.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Mr. A.

**Dumb Question Alert**

Have you authorized the cards with UA and downloaded the Reg file?

Thanks - Yes they are both authorized. The odd thing is when we look at the configuration in the UAD meter, it always says the 2nd card is not available, and it is unticked.

I'm not aware how to get a seperate reg file for EACH card installed, isn't ther only one on the my systems page?

Thanks,

Mr. A.

Sometimes pci slots are sensitive to dust, and subtle movement. I know this might seem odd, but try and take the card out and then put it back in. I've had issues like this before with my motu pci card and this always does the trick.

Still can't have both UAD cards working in my PC. We are able to get them both to work by enabling them one at a time, rebooting each time, then the third time we can have BOTH work in Nuendo, but when we reboot, the PC crashes when you open the UAD meter, or try to use them in Nuendo. So it's a problem that repeats.

Could this be a firmware issue? I have one older PCI card and a new PCI-e card in this system. The rebooting problem suggests an incompatability to me. Can users update firmware?

Thanks,

Mr. A.

I don't quite understand what you mean by "firmware issue". With the UAD-1 cards or with your motherboard? From what i understand all the UAD-1 cards are basically the same. Heatsink sizes may be different.
I have different (4) UAD-1 cards on my PB5-E motherboard. They are all working together just fine. I have not had a problem with all my cards being recognized and operational whenever I boot my DAW. In some projects, I've been able to get up to 93%-94% total cumulative DSP load across all four cards:

(1) 4 year-old Mackie PCI
(1) 18 month old Project Pak PCI
(2) 1-month old Express Pak PCIe

Have you tried changing the UAD-1 cards to other slots on your MB?

Is your Power Supply able to handle all that? quad-cores require a lot of juice by themselves ... add in some hard drives, a video card ... does that second UAD just put it over the top?
This was my 1st thought as well. It really is a very big deal that a lot of people either discount or don't know about. LOTS ans LOTS of peripherals get returned because they 'don't work' when the reality is that the power supply in the chassis can not run all of the gear properly. The problem is that it is not cut-and-dry. You would think that if there is not enough power, extra things just wouldn't work. But, unfortunately, inadequate power cause general 'weirdness'.

What are the specs on your PS?

I would also suggest to look at the PSU.

Many years ago When I got my first UAD-1 card I coudln't run it without really bad audio crackling. Swapping the PSU for another one cured it. I had of course spent a whole week trying everything else under the sun. :? :?
