Can't use 16x PCIe slot?

Today was supposed to be a happy day.

I bought my fourth UAD-1 card, a PCIe version. I already had 2 PCI and 1 PCIe. Unfortunately, the new PCIe card isn't recognized in the second 16x PCIe slot on my Asus A8N-SLI Premium motherboard. My graphics card is in the first 16x slot. I could switch them, but I don't think it would matter.

I've only got two non-16x slots, one for the other PCIe card, and the other for my Firewire interface (I get clicks and pops using the onboard Firewire). I tried every possibility I could think of in the BIOS, but still, the PCIe card and Firewire card aren't recognized in the 16x slot. Is that slot for graphics only?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's a happy day after all!

After much trial and error, sweat and tears, I got it working by setting SLI mode to auto, putting the graphics card in the second 16x slot, and putting the Firewire card in the first 16x slot where the graphics card was. That left the 1x and 4x slots for the UAD-1e cards.

Phew.
