Clicks, Pops, Distortion General Rough Sounds

When toggling through plug in presets, or muting and unmuting plug ins, etc, tracks start galloping, become delayed and there is general harshness with each move. Stopping playback and starting again fixes the delay issue, but when stopping playback there can be distortion and other very unpleasant sounds. Is there a preferred setting to adjust this? I have Plug-In Latency set to Compensation: All and Payback pre-roll is checked. I have also adjusted buffer sizes. I am using Logic and a new Mac Studio.

Thank you

This is all normal. Use the internal "soft bypass" buttons instead. What you're doing now is impacting delay comp and the DAW is having to react to that.

Thank you Drew. The galloping and delays I can work with. The harsh and jarring sounds that come from stopping playback, etc. seem more like an error caused by improper settings. I've experienced this before on much less powerful and sophisticated systems and was able to make setting adjustments. I am new to Logic and Apollo, so something is not quite right here. Thank you for your input.
