Hi all,
Im lookingto put together a new computer with the following parts:

Intel Pentium D 830 3.0GHz Dual Core
ASUS P5P800 SE

Anyone with experience running Intel Dual core cpus and the uad-1?
Or is it better to stick to a new single core?

Thanks in advance,
R

Pentium D830 OC'ed to 3.75, RME Fireface on PCI-E Firewire 400 card, 2 UADs, and a PoCo...no issues here. Motherboard is an ASUS P5WD2 Premium. The system is fast, quiet, cool (water cooled), and sounds great. Working latency is 1.5ms or 3ms depending on project complexity.

The new 900 series dual core chips are out now, for a small bit more. I'd recommend those over the hotter 800 series which also has less cache.

Thanks for the comments. Am i correct in saying the 9xx intel D chips are for BTX only?
I was seriously looking at an X2, but nForce 3 boards are getting harder to find down here and a magma is not really an option - the ones i've seen on ebay won't ship internationally and new ones here in NZ are a fortune.

Cheers,

The 900 series chips are LGA775 chips...and they will work in any 775 based boardsupporting dual core chips. Just keep them cool. My current favorite for air cooling is the Zalman CNPS9500.

You may be right in that Intel doesn't offer two versions any more though.

I've read that some of the advantages of the 900 series is that it is actually more efficient (larger cache?) and runs a lot cooler than the 800 series. I am thinking about a 930 and just using the stock fan.
