I'm a Dream/Lion/OX Stomp user and want to add an interface. Up until now, I've been running the amp pedals direct into my monitors, but would enjoy having the ability to record (purely for fun). Basically, I'd like to take advnatage of the added functionality that an interface brings, and get a bit more use out of these monitors.
Looking through the amp pedal manuals, I see UA is using the Volt 2 in their stereo connection examples, so that was my first consideration. Looking into it further, I'm now thinking the Apollo Solo would be a nice step up. My only concern was the lack of two Hi-Z inputs on the Solo vs. the Volts, but reading this forum has lead me to believe that going out from the OX Stomp/Dream/Lion into the line inputs on the Solo would work just fine, is this definately the case?
Would the instrument inputs still be the best option? Does it even matter in this case? Worst case, I could buy a DI box, but that's an added expense I'll avoid if it's uneccessary. All I know is that I need at least two inputs if I want to take advantage of the stereo effects on this UAFX gear, so that's why I ask.
If I opt for the Solo, should I be going out from the Stomp/amp pedals to the line inputs, or via mic/XLR on these Apollo units? I assume TS > TS is the correct method, but I've seen other folks mention using XLR, so wanted to clarify.
I'm sure it's apparent, but I'm new to all of this, so please excuse the basic questions, and by all means, if I'm biting off more than I can (or should) chew, please let me know!
Edit: Here's a thread where this very topic is discussed. https://uadforum.com/community/index.php?threads/uafx-amp-pedal-into-apollo.66999/
I'd just like a consensus on if the OX Stomp and Lion/Dream etc. output a signal better suited for the Hi-Z input, of if they're line level by the time they leave the units. This is one thing that puzzles me; as you go further up the chain (and not just UA), the interfaces tend to only have one instrument/hi-z input, whereas the budget interfaces have two. The only one I'm seeing in this price range with two is the Clarett+ 2Pre, but I'd prefer to stick with UA.
Perhaps I've answered my own question, but it seems the safe bet is Volt 2, and it's a significant savings vs. Solo + potentially needing a DI box to get the impedance matched up.
