Considering moving on from Ox

First off, I have never been able to get my ox to sound good. There is always some sort of digital fizz. I've opened tickets in the past and I've tried EVERYTHING: new speaker cables, different amps, new SPDIF cable, Levels, clipping, sample rate, internal clock, Instrument cables I've tried all the cabs, mics, EQ combos. I just can't get this thing to sound good at anything - clean, edge of breakup, or hi gain. It is not "normal" as they said in the past. Single notes sound fine but any kind of chords or double stops start to fizz instantly. Any edge of breakup to mid gain tones sound awful. In addition, I've found all pedals sound bad in ox box. My chasetone secret pre amp - which really doesn't add much gain, makes the signal fizzy as hell. Fuzz pedals are so harsh and unpleasing. Also the headphone out on my unit has probably twice the fizz as listening through apollo with headphones or via monitors.

It's so difficult to explain all the little things and go back and forth on email about every detail of a setup... only to have to spend money replacing parts of the equation... to no avail. I've tried 3 different amps and I've replaced everything (speaker cables, SPDIF, Instrument cables, guitars) in the setup many times. I know people get great recordings through ox but I cannot no matter what I try. I've spent hours and hours and hours reading threads and watching videos. I'm so desperate for some real help and feel totally kicked to the side and lost with this issue. I've spent hours on these forums.... I just want to play guitar, not run into a problem every time I open console.

This morning I fired my apollo and ox up, and the SPDIF internal clock is blinking red and will not allow me to select it or change the sample rate down to 44.1... even though this worked normally less than 12 hours ago. The ox is connected through the SPDIF port but console will not recognize it. Even then in my experience this hasn't improved the digital fizz. It's incredible how many people seem to have this problem yet this is no fault to UA at all? If you search "ox box fizz" or "ox box crackle" there are countless threads about this same issue. I'm sorry but my deluxe reverb mic'd up on 3 volume with a 57 is not as distorted as it is in ox, even when I match levels and mic positioning and make sure there is absolutely no clipping. I opened up another ticket and offered to pay to ship my ox for an inspection about this but I fear I already know what UA's response will be.

In addition, the fact that some people said that a new unit fixed their issues with fizz raises my eyebrows. But I will not lose money on a new unit only risk this happening again.

I'm really tired of being gaslit into thinking this is somehow my fault or my gears fault. UA treats everyone as if they've "never really heard their tube amp before", seriously? what a condescending answer. I've mic'd up my amps and played them loud at home, on stage, and in the studio. I'm seriously considering letting go of the ox to try something else, maybe a Fryette. Has anyone felt like me and was able to find a solution?

EDIT: I was able to select SPDIF out (still fizzy) but as soon as I open logic to record something, it goes red again. I went through the setup guide again and everything is normal... looks like yet another Saturday spent on UAD forums instead of playing or recording.

Maybe borrow theirs to test?
So you are admitting it could be a fault of my unit then? huh.... Unfortunately I don't know anyone personally who has one. You should keep in mind It's a really expensive piece of gear that I would say most musicians cannot afford. I was saying online and and on youtube plenty of people get good recordings.

When I expressed that I thought my unit could be faulty in past tickets you all shrugged me off and gaslit me into buying new all new speaker cables and spdif cables and I even got two of my amps serviced. In my newest ticket I offered to pay to ship my unit back to you all to test it out.

No, I am simply offering something to do to eliminate a variable. Eliminating variables is part of troubleshooting.

Who is "you all"? I've never shrugged off anyone's issues.

Drew I appreciate your quick response but I have eliminated all the variables except for the unit itself. I obviously do not know who exactly was dealing with me directly, but you also represent the company. So "you" can be included in this. When I opened a support ticket in the past I was just directed to look at the forums and check speaker cables, Instrument cables, tubes etc. which I all did. And the issue was not fixed, to which I was directed to more articles that basically told me I've never heard my own amp before lol it felt pretty shrugged off to me. The only solution I can think of is for UA to inspect it since I do not know anyone who can lend me one and also I don't have $1500 extra dollar laying around to buy a new one to compare.

Indeed. Hence my advice. Sending it back doesn't include all your specific gear etc, and more importantly, you're not there.

Ron will take care of you from here. I've sent him this thread to review, so he'll have the proper context.

Maybe you've already tested this but I'm asking anyway. Have you tried going OX Box analog out and into the Apollo?

Just wanted to say to TubeTapeGecko that I am in the exact same boat. All of my amps break up so quick through the OX, it's complete nonsense when I know what they sound like through a cab. Any fuzz is so fizzy, high-gain - fizz again. It's so disappointing.

Unsolicited recommendation, I sortof gave up on big tube amps a few years ago but was never fully satisfied with digital modeling either. I've been using the Friedman IR-X into my Apollo for the last 6 months and never been happier to play my electric guitar.

What's your signal chain with the IR-X?

That'd be great but you're stuck with only Marshall-like tones, right?

Just guitar -> IRX-X -> Apollo . I've got a wampler tumnus in front at the moment.

Sometimes I keep the IR enabled on the IR-X, other times I run it through the IRs in the UAD2 amp sims with the other sections turned off. I've also been playing with using Neutron Audio "Quantum Speaker" profiles which are pretty awesome (in Neural Amp Modeler Plugin)
