Hey guys,

I posted some on the old UAD forums. 1st time to post on the new forum. Just thought I'd share a couple of tunes for a project I just completed.

http://www.ascendproductions.com/marcandre/newalbum

All of it was mixed \"In the Box\". G5 dual 1.8 running Nuendo 2. About 95% of the plugins coming from the UAD-1 and the TC card. The only other plugs were the stock Nuendo stuff. I'd love to get some feedback from you all :) Let me know if you want any details on the recording or mixes.

Thanks,
dave.

Great stuff :D

Would think it might need some mid-field range, it sound rather heavy in both the bass and high frequency areas, but some more body to the mid-range would help IMHO

Do you have the Sony Inflator?

Indeed great playing and craftfull put together !

What i think you need to be aware of is the following:
- you pretty much 'mastered' all the dynamics out of the songs, as is the
standard these day's.
- You should check the mixes in mono, they sound completely different.
You like the big delay stereo sound I guess.

All that's mentioned above could very well be intentionally. In that case forget all that I wrote.

Good luck at finishing the album.

Hey Veto,
Thanks for the kind words. I'll pass them along to the players and the artist.

Yes...there are very little dynamics now:( These are the final mastered mixes. I personaly don't like it quite as loud and compressed as it is, but that is what the artist wanted.

As far as the mono thing... I'm torn about that because I know it's something that should be paid some attention, however... I pretty much decided to neglect mono world as the artist was looking for a very big and wide mix. If the need arises for the songs to be remixed for mono compatiblility I'll just have to do a little wokr to make it work.

Thank you very much for taking the time:) Much Apperciated!!

Hey Dave. Here is a small tip 4 yah.

Even if an artists wants wide stereo, mix in mono with stereo plugins, you;d be surprised how big the field really is. (Some times I do that just for playability and I end up with a nice present spacious mix. :)

2. The Lead vocal on the 1st track. To Edgy. What did they use to cut it?

Other than that, sounds fine to me. I think the mastering could have been a tad better. I notice a cloud around 400 to about 630.

Nice job dude. Peace....

So U loving that G5??? How many tracks are you able to get grooving in Nuendo????

I plan to finally update to a G5 in less than 60 days (Gotta keep these cleints paying. LOL)

Is yours a Rev 1 or Rev 2 Dual 1.8??

Listening to the Ladder, there could have been better use of the midrange freq's. this song sounds sonically limited in range.

Hey Dave,

Did you produce this as well? Really like it. Very full production. What did you use for the strings in After Everything? I've been wanting to get better strings sounds.

Were the drums live or programmed. If programmed, did you do the sequencing? What samples.

All in all, really well done.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the words and the suggestions. I'm not qite sure about the \"mixing in mono\" thing but I'll check it out sometime.

As for the drums and strings sounds. The drums and perc. are live. There was a little bit of a static loop in \"After Everything\" that's mixed pretty low. The Drums were cut by a freind of mine... Steve Brewster. As much as I would love to take some sort of credit for the drum sounds, the credit belogs to Steve. His drums sound is absolutly amazing and he REALLY knows how to hit them right. It's prtty incredible you just put a mic in front of the drum, pull up the fader, and BOOM!!

The Strings... I've acutally had a few people ask me about the string sound. All of those that asked were hoping to figure out what samples we used. Well, we did use some synth strings, just the stock Motif string sounds, but only in a few places to fill out the sound of the live string section we tracked. You're hearing about 80-85% live strings. IMHO That really is the only way to get those type of articulations believable. Once again I have to tip my hat the the guy that did the string arrangment. Rich Barrett did an amazing job with the small section we were able to work with. Let me know if you want details on the size of the section and how it was miced and mixed.... I'd be happy to oblige:)

Thanks,
dave.
