DEMO offer needs a facelift.

Hi all,

This ain't a bitchin session, I know, but this 14DEMO crap UAD offers ain't really ergonomic to business owners like myself. I much, much... prefer the 20hours demo from Powercore.. Awesome.. Why?..

Well think about it. What does UAD expect from its users? wake up every morning to try this damn 14day trial, like we got nothing else going on in our lives. How arrogant!! really.. Don't get me wrong, it hurts so much, because the Neve plug is fabulous, just astounding, which is exactly my problem. Your 14day count starts the day you activate the demo, and keeps counting 14days down, even if you switched the plug back on or not.. That's just plain stupid IMO. Because, like most, I have a business to run, and can't be mucking around trying plugs when you have mouths to feed. i much prefer my Powercore offer, because it allows me to pick my free weekend, try the plugs to my satisfaction, in increments of my choosing, which also allows me time analyse, think, experiment etc... and then buy. I only had a day with it, got back to life, found some time out, went to try it, and the bloody thing was gone. Expired it seems.... After all who are all these plugs made for? UAD card owners offcourse, so what's the rush, even after my 20hour DEMO, if I wanted it, I'd have to buy it. It's not like its a native plug, ready to be cracked by H2O in a month etc... It's like ordering food, while the menu is whizzing past you.. friggin ridiculous.

I feel the same in theory.

HOWEVER, every time I've needed a 'recharge' on an expired demo, a simple 800 call to UA has given me another 14 days. So in practise, it's not been an issue.

Give 'em a buzz. They are quite amenable in this regard.

Really!!!!
Now, this is news... No one has ever mentioned that before. So, what do I do? Call'em and how do they go about renewing my trial. Aahhhh! maybe I've got to download another registry file from my user UAD account. I guess??!!!

Am i right?
Thanks for the info anyway..

Let's not forget that it was not too long ago that the powercore demos were completely unusable. It's actually still this way if you have the old card. The UAD demo system was always the favorite among the two.
I think that the 14 day limit may just help orders to come in early.
For example, I've had 40hrs to demo the MD3 on my powercore (I have 2 MKIIs) so I only had to purchase it after about 4 albums worth of mastering.

However, I would still love for them to adopt the powercore demo system. With my 4 UAD cards, I should have 80hrs of demo time!

Exactly my point... 4 albums later... now thats getting some serious usage before actually buying. And, once the user gets this much flexibility in usage, it allows him to quantify how well this plug now fits into his repertoire or routine. And the MD3 is the perfect contender regarding this sort of demo'ing. I bought the MD3 instantly, but still demoing the VSS series etc..

It all makes sense, especially if you are selling DSP bundled processors. UAD must change.. I insists..

Ya know I haven't turned on a SINGLE demo since the plate 140 because I'm afraid of a) I'll like it too much and have to get it or b) Not have enough time to effectively try it out.

I think a change in the scheme would be great.

They did the same for me....and I ended up springing for the Neve so it was devinitely a win-win.

I just ordered my second flexipak and the Precision Mulitband demo i was using on a mastering project was running down to its last few days when I went on vacation. Fotunately, the system clock somehow miracuously reset itself during my absence!!!
How do you like that?

but yeah an actual usage-meter would be better ( for those not so fortunate)

Exactly... That's me, the not so lucky..... I guess, I'd have to call UAD on that 1800 no#..

Now I face another dilema, time zones!!!!
When I'm wide awake  here in Sydney, the whole of the America's is fast asleep. That's just splendid!!Damn...

I activeated my 1073 demo and went hmmmm... interesting, I'll have
to come back to it. (I too had real work to do) Before I knew it 14 days
went by and I'll never know.

Common story.
